Blood Day November 1st, 2017

Blood Management Day is a lecture series at the Health Sciences Centre for healthcare professionals. The Chapter will have a display table at this event to provide information about bleeding disorders to the attendees. Traditionally, the information on von Willebrand’s is in high demand as this is the most common bleeding disorder. We plan to use this display table to also highlight the delay in diagnosis of women with inherited bleeding disorders. The display will be open from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. If you are interested in helping at this table for part of the day, please call the office.

CHS Information on Products in Pipeline

Never have so many coagulation therapies been in development or “in the pipeline”. So many, in fact, that it has become difficult to keep track of them all. So the CHS is publishing four charts, one each for clotting factor concentrates, inhibitor products, non-factor coagulation products that may prove efficacious in both inhibitor and non-inhibitor patients, and gene therapy, to help everyone stay informed of their progress through clinical trials and regulatory approval.

Sports Bursary Program

Do you have a child with an inherited bleeding disorder enrolled in a sports activity this fall? There are funds remaining in this program that can be used to help families. You can apply for a $100 bursary to a maximum of two times a year. Your chosen activity must be discussed and approved by pediatric physiotherapist, Matthew Thiessen to ensure that the activity matches your ability. The bursary can also be used to help pay for protective equipment such as knee pads for volleyball or curling. You need to present the receipt for the activity or equipment and documentation of Matthew’s approval. Contact the office if you are interested and we’ll walk you through the process.
