“COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS” is our current Message Series beginning Sunday, Oct. 16. Having trouble co-existing with family or friends in this polarized era of toxic politics and extreme opinions (the holidays are coming!)? Our 5-week series will start with building blocks for conversations and we will invite your participation as the series continues. If you know of anyone who would appreciate insight on having challenging conversations with family, friends, co-workers, etc., then please INVITE them to be with us!
PICNIC ON THE LAWN! Plan to bring a picnic lunch, as well as a blanket or folding camp chairs to sit on next Sunday, Oct. 22, for some “Courageous Conversations” with our Biltmore family members after the services as we try out some new conversation tools we will be sharing.
YOUTH SUNDAY Our confirmation group will begin assisting during the traditional worship once a month beginning this week! Please pray for the group and lend your support to them.
If you would like to mentor one of our youth, please contact Sonny.
NEXT GEMS! : Family Costume Party on Friday, Oct. 20 at 6:30pm.
Mark your calendars and start planning your costumes for our next GEMS! fellowship in BMore’s Event Center. Please bring a Halloween snack, appetizer, or dessert to share. Rather than the usual dinner, this evening will be heavy hors d'oeuvres and desserts. Costumes will be judged, pumpkins will be decorated, some snacks will be assembled, and maybe some stories will be shared! If you can help co-host, please let Anita know (828-216-6591, ageasayles@gmail.com). Lauri Rickman and Helen Kramer are hosting and are looking for others to help make this family-friendly party happen! It's just 2 weeks until we meet!
SAFE SANCTUARY TRAINING will be held Oct. 22 following a picnic lunch. This training is required for all who are interested in working with our children or youth annually.
CHILDREN’S COUNCIL MEETING will be held immediately following the Safe Sanctuaries Training on Oct. 22.

BUMC SMALL GROUPS ARE THRIVING
Thanks to prayers, participation, and small group leaders, we now have an amazing number of small groups which meet on a regular basis; and we’d like to add one more. Please celebrate with us:
- 9 groups meet weekly or bimonthly to share their lives with each other! (40-50 people) (Papa’s Princesses, Jesus & Beer, 2 Women’s Emmaus Reunion Groups, Crafters for Christ, ‘N Rapport, Men’s Emmaus Group, Men’s Downtown Lunch Group, and Anchor Service Group)
- 3 groups meet regularly to enjoy special interests together and to strengthen relationships through fellowship. (70-75 people) (GEMS!, Movies and More, and Family Fun Time)
- 3 groups are offered weekly in our Thursday Recovery Program (Chemical Dependency Recovery Group, and 2 Life Hurts Recovery Groups)
We want to start at least one more regular group this year; it can meet weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly. It can grow from any idea, need, or interest. We just need a leader/organizer and an idea with a date and time for meeting, and Anita will help make the group a reality. For example, maybe someone would like to start a Sunday Lunch Bunch to eat together after worship. We would suggest a core group of 4-5 people who would be present for most of these outings. Then, visitors to our services could be invited to come for that day. Also, the group could welcome any others who find themselves available for lunch after worship for a specific date. Are you available?!
Please check out the groups that have formed to see if you would like to join one of them, or let Anita know if you want to help form a new group! (ageasayles@gmail.com; 828-216-6591).
FAMILY FUN! Eliada’s 2017 Annual Corn Maze is Sep 30 – Oct 31. We are looking for someone to drive a group to this event on a date that fits his or her calendar. Please let Anita know if you are interested in helping or if you want to go. COSTS: Adults (age 16+): $12; Children (age 4-15): $10
Join our 'N Rapport Small Group

Brooks-Howell Home is hosting Kathy Bergen, Canadian Mennonite human rights activist with deep roots in Palestine/Israel, for a talk on Thursday, October 19, 3:15 p.m.
From her first visit in 1982 Kathy has been working with both local Palestinian Christian and Muslim communities and the Israeli peace movement and she has long been a resource for study groups who come to the Middle East from universities, seminaries, colleges, and churches from around the world and continues to organize international conferences. For 12 years she served as the National Coordinator of the Middle East Program of the Peace building in the national office of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) in Philadelphia.
Her most recent visit to Palestine was this spring and she has much information to share on "Faith in Action for Human Rights for Palestinians" .
HOSTS NEEDED! We have an amazing opportunity for Lee University's premier women's choir, Ladies of Lee, to perform at B'MORE on Saturday, Nov. 11. To do this, we’d need to host about 55 college students in our homes for a night. If you can host one or more students in your home (on a couch, an air mattress or in a bed), please find the sign up sheet in our lobby.
To learn more about this awesome choir, check out their website.
PERSONAL NOTE OF THANKS
