Rostering part-time employees: The Fair Work Commission has rejected a proposal by business groups and St Ives aged care to change Award clauses to allow an employer to roster part-time employee within pre-agreed periods of employee availability. The Award clause reads “before commencing employment, the employer and employee will agree in writing on a regular pattern of work including the number of hours to be worked each week, the days of the week the employee will work and the starting and finishing times each day”.

Tax deduction tip: Three golden rules for taxpayers claiming deductions. (1) You have to have spent the money yourself and can’t have been reimbursed. (2) The claim must be directly related to earning your income. (3) You need a record to prove it. The ATO is paying closing attention to work-related car expense claims. Source: ATO

Salary packaging industry consolidation: On 9th September, Smartgroup Corporation acquired RACV Salary Solutions. This follows their acquisition of Access Pay in May 2017, Selectus in July 2016 and Advantage Salary Packaging in December 2015.
