I hope that all of you have enjoyed a good summer trail season. As October rolls around, I wanted to offer a brief update on what's going on with the Trail.
In August we received a very generous donation of Design & Engineering Services for the Trail from the Mike Levine Family Foundation. Mr. Levine is a passionate supporter of trails in Michigan, and plans to hold a cross-state trail event in 2019. It's our intent to have the Air Line be a part of that route.
Spurred on by Levine's donation of Design & Engineering Services, The Trail Council (via the city of Wixom as the Act 51 entity) is applying for TAP Grant funds this month - the application is due at the end of the month.
Part of that application includes resolutions of support from the three communities that the Trail passes through. There will be resolutions offered for votes by the Commerce Township Board and the Wixom City Council on October 10, and the Walled Lake City Council on the 17th. PLEASE, if you live in any of these communities, it would be very helpful if you could come to the meeting in your community and offer your support for the Trail during public comment. Commerce meets at 7pm on the 10th, as does Wixom. Walled Lake meets at 7:30 on the 17th.
We will also start to bolster the local fundraising components as we move forward with Trail development. More on those efforts in the next month or so.
Bridge Update:
The M-5 Pedestrian Bridge contracts are due to be let in the next few weeks. Goal is for the bridge to be the first construction project of the 2018 season, with construction completed in August or September.
