NEPAL TRIP UPDATE

Applications have been received for the 2018 Nepal trip and our Nepal Committee has selected fifteen teens to join six Maya Gold Foundation Board members for a two week trip to Nepal in the spring of 2018.  The trip is designed to provide numerous opportunities for teens to interact with their Nepali peers, and support local people in need.  The teens attending are aged 13 to 18, and come from the New Paltz, Rondout and Onteora school districts in the Hudson Valley, and the Oaklyn Schools in New Jersey. Teen participants will:
  • Volunteer in an orphanage alongside Nepali teens
  • Share their gifts, talents, and understanding of culture in the USA with the young people and teens of Nepal
  • Make connections and friendships with Nepali teens through personal exchange and outdoor adventures
  • Reduce the illegal trafficking of young people via education and support of local charities
  • Develop an understanding of Nepali culture, customs and history
  • Gain an awareness of the difficulties and resiliencies of young people in Nepal
  • Bring back their perspective and experience of Nepal to the Hudson Valley community through an event of creative presentations upon their return to New Paltz

FALL COMMUNITY SERIES EVENT A SUCCESS

During this transformative performance entitled Heartbeats,  the TMI Project invited storytellers and audience members to explore new perspectives in relationships. By sharing bravely and candidly, storytellers became agents of change, fostering compassion, understanding and public awareness.

The event was offered in Rosendale, NY at no cost to over 75 local community members.

ELISE GOLD HONORED AT TMI PROJECT VOICES IN ACTION GALA

Maya Gold Foundation co-founder Elise Gold was honored at the TMI Project annual Voices in Action event, held on September 28, in Kingston, NY.

The evening included a performance highlighting storytellers from several Community Outreach Initiative workshops that TMI Project has conducted over the past year. The lineup included young women from SUNY New Paltz who participated in “Our Bodies Talk Back” last spring, a workshop and performance, sponsored by the Maya Gold Foundation, which focused on women’s body image, objectification and sexual assault.

Elise remarked  that “we at the Maya Gold Foundation realize that the work we do both locally and globally cannot be done alone. We seek partners whose vision aligns with ours. We are thrilled that TMI Project is one of our partners.  TMI Project creates space where individuals can be authentic. Safety is maintained, allowing writers to travel to dark places. Then, there is opportunity for readers to be heard."

"We deeply value this work.”
