Our Music Director, Jessica Lieb, was hospitalized a week ago with dizziness and chest pains. Currently she is home, but they still haven't figured out what is wrong. Sadly, her dizziness is severe enough she will need company to help her go about the basic functions of home life. If you can visit and help out, please reach out 563-580-3422. She is really grateful for all the help you have offered in the past week.
Please don't forget our members who can't make it on Sundays: Keep them in your thoughts and prayers,
or call, or visit!
Karen Kitchen continues to live at the Martin Center, in a new room-- #16. She welcomes visitors in the afternoon. Her number is 319-961-1940.

MOVING FORWARD WITH CVUU
All of us who have committed our time and energy to the Cedar Valley Unitarian Universalist congregation share the desire that it be a healthy, thriving religious community that has a clear vision of its potential contribution to the community and the world. However, in recent months there have been developments that cause us concern about the health of the congregation, including: declining financial contributions, increasing difficulty in recruiting people for leadership positions, and the disengagement or loss of members who have the potential to contribute, to the congregation.
Nevertheless, we share a faith that our congregation can thrive and grow, that it can meet a variety of needs for members, and that it can have a positive impact on the community. OUR RELIGIOUS MOVEMENT IS IMPORTANT IN THIS TROUBLED WORLD!
Therefore, the Board has authorized a series of focus groups during the fall of 2017 to explore potential strengths and weaknesses of our congregation and to gather information that will contribute to efforts to strengthen our group.
If you have participated in a focus group, you know that they are small groups of 6-8 persons who engage in a dialog on important issues, guided by a set of carefully designed questions. The purpose of these groups is not to come to shared conclusions or to make decisions but simply to gather information about the diverse perspectives of our congregation.
PLEASE CONTRIBUTE YOUR THOUGHTS AND DREAMS TO THIS IMPORTANT DIALOG ABOUT THE FUTURE OF OUR CONGREGATION.
SIGN UP FOR ONE OF THE MANY DIFFERENT DATES AND TIMES SHOWN ON THE BULLETIN BOARD IN THE FELLOWSHIP HALL!

Free Food Pantry
Thank you for your donations. Please consider regular donations to the Food Pantry so we can continue to help supplement the diet and needs of our neighbors in need.
If you would rather make a monetary donation please make a check out to the CVUU with Food Pantry in the memo line. I buy many bulk items at Sam's Club and the dollar store and this would help make those purchases.
Please do not donate tomato products, sauces or pasta. These items are not taken. Items that are taken are canned meals such as ravioli and spagettios etc, pork and beans, small micro meals ( non refrigerated of course) peanut butter, pudding packs, various treats, toilet paper, toothpaste, deodorant, toothbrushes, baby food. Also children and teen books and craft supplies ( colors, pencils, coloring books, etc)
A personal note. I just want to thank you for your generosity. One of the little kids asked me why we did this. I said because we like to be generous. Do you know what that means? He said No. I told him we liked to share what we have with others who might need it. He says Oh. He is one of many kids I see a lot. They stop by to see whats in the box when they get off the school bus. Most all of the people who use the pantry are kids. This summer I saw a lot of them and I got the idea that most where looking for something to eat during the day and were fixing their own lunch and snacks. Most of them are friendly and appreciative. We do have a few who have dumped food or littered or cause some problems but most are good kids looking for something to eat.
