Hi

Welcome to my October newsletter.

I'm happy to be working on a new novel (about a lockdown in a school) and finishing up 2018's yet-to-be-titled My Life book of short stories. (The series is set for a big re-vamp next year. Lots of great things in development at Penguin Random House.)

In this edition of my eNews:

- 2017 Book Week & book tour highlights.
- An amazing student-made book trailer.
- Facebook Live chat with Better Reading Kids.
- 5 Books That Influenced the Writing of The Fall.
- Pics from Byron Writers Fest's Kids Big Day Out.
- Skype Author Talks on offer in 2018.

Enjoy!

Tristan.

2017 BOOK TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

Children's Book Week, Writers Fests, school visits. It's been a big year of touring. Here are the best pics from my Instagram over the past few months, giving you a glimpse into life on the road. More...

AMAZING STUDENT-MADE BOOK-TRAILER FOR 'THE FALL'

This book trailer recently won the CBCA QLD Reader's Cup State Final book trailer competition.

I was blown away by the economical storytelling and tech prowess employed to make this trailer. It captures the tone of the book and hints at the story without needing to relay the entire plot. It makes me want to read the book. ;)

BETTER READING KIDS FACEBOOK LIVE

A quick behind-the-scenes chat on Facebook Live about the personal inspirations behind my books and also our 2017 Room to Read World Change Challenge

Better Reading Kids are great advocates for children's literacy in Australia.

5 BOOKS THAT INFLUENCED THE WRITING OF 'THE FALL'
Many writers say they don't read fiction while writing a book because they don't want another book to impact the story they're working on. But I'm always writing, which would mean I could never read, and that would be very sad.

Here are five books that had a clear impact on the writing of my new crime-mystery novel for ages 10+, The Fall.

BYRON WRITERS FEST KIDS' BIG DAY OUT

Byron Writers Festival's Kids' Big Day Out was huge fun this year, with hundreds of kids and parents in a big, white marquee next to the beach in Byron Bay, to see authors Lucas Proudfoot, Isobelle Carmody, Hilary Badger, Peter Helliar, myself, Sally Rippin and Richard Roxburgh. Here are some highlights from the day!

SKYPE AUTHOR TALKS IN 2018

Faster internet speeds and better equipment have made virtual classroom visits much more possible and successful now.

I've been doing lots of Skype visits this year and finding ways to make it as visual and interactive as an in-person talk.

There's more info on events, bookings, testimonials etc here.
