BUA NEWS AND NOTES
October 10, 2017
IN THIS ISSUE:
A Note from Celine Pak '17

Dear BUA Community,

Those of you who know me may be wondering what I am doing around the building after graduating from BUA last May.  After hearing that I was planning to take a gap year, Director of Admission Nastaran Hakimi graciously offered me an internship in her office.

It is no surprise that I took Nastaran up on her offer: as a diligent Admission volunteer and an enthusiastic member of the Admission Ambassadors team while I was a student here, I loved (and still do!) telling prospective families about the wonderful opportunities this school provides and the nurturing environment in which our students flourish. I firmly believe that BUA’s education has changed me for the better—and it’s the least I can do to give back by telling others about my experience.

BUA’s official admission season kicked off two Sundays ago with our first Open House. It was great to experience my first Admission Open House as a BUA employee!  I was grateful to have another opportunity to share my story and welcome our future students to the remarkable journey on which they are about to embark.

After attending an Open House, prospective BUA students will fill our halls: shadowing freshmen and sitting in on their classes, going on tours, and meeting our lovely faculty. For the many of you who have had similar experiences to mine, I encourage you to give back to this community by volunteering at our next Open House on November 5. I hope to see you there!

All best,
Celine Pak ‘17

Updates from the College Counseling Office
  • Seniors are preparing to submit college applications!  A few will do so by October 15, with the majority of students submitting at least one application by November 1.  In early November, seniors will narrow their college list down to their final list of approximately ten schools or fewer.

  • Course registration forms for Spring 2018 are due at noon on Friday, October 20.

  • In addition to many great resources in our office (college, testing, summer/gap year programs, etc.), the College Counseling page of the BUA website has lots of helpful information as well.  There, you’ll find an archive of the College Counseling Newsletters published so far this academic year, the Class of 2018 School Profile (a document sent with each transcript to colleges where our students apply), and, under the ‘Current Families’ section, the College Admissions Guidebook, which has answers to many questions about the college search and application process, including a section regarding standardized testing.
