From the Chair
I'm sure we all have survival stories of the first week of the quarter. I'm pleased to say we made it! First off, thank you to our new and totally rock star status Staff Assembly Coordinator, Asheley Greenlee, for diving in headfirst to redesign Staff Voice. Despite all the challenges, it looks great and is in alignment with the Executive Committee’s vision for employee recognition and expression. Our goal this year is to focus on you, our readers and UC Davis staff. At our September Staff Assembly meeting, we hosted Shirley Li from the Olive Center for a lively discussion on olive oil tasting. Coming October 26 (Staff Assembly's Third Thursday) we'll feature a Meat Lab and Horse Barn tour, hosted by a vegetarian and your very own vegan, and is guaranteed to be a thrilling experience. Our aim is to highlight the variety of amazing talent and work that staff do daily supporting the research and teaching mission of our university.
On a more serious topic, we continue to share your thoughts on the post-retirement healthcare benefits with both our local administration and the UC Regents. If you have further concerns, please continue to share it, and as news surfaces, we will pass any news on to you. We hope that the Regents continues to value staff retirement benefits fully and we will continue to put pressure on the system to fully support this valuable asset to our employees.
For now, enjoy your pumpkin spice latte and the changing weather. I encourage you to attend the upcoming Staff Assembly monthly meeting on the fourth Tuesday of the month from noon to 1 p.m. The meetings are held in the Plant and Environmental Science, room 2005.
