Principal's News

Dress Code
Winter dress code begins this week. Shorts and sandals are not permitted to be worn again until April. You can find the details of the policy on pages 17 & 18 of the handbook which can be found on our website or by clicking HERE. The policy specifically states that spandex are not permitted. However, the teachers and I realize that girls may get cold if they do not have something covering their legs in the winter. In this case, the shirt length must completely cover the derriere (same length in front). If you have any questions please contact me.

Arrival & Dismissal
I have recently discovered that some families are using the teachers parking lot to either drop their students off in the morning and/or pick them up in the afternoon. This is a safety concern, so please discontinue doing so.

Congratulations
Please join me in congratulating our September Students of the Month, Will Clark and John Berry.

STO
65% Iowa Tax Credit! As an Iowa Catholic taxpayer, you can help families with demonstrated financial need attend any Catholic School in the Archdiocese of Dubuque through a contribution to the Our Faith School Tuition Organization (STO). Each contribution will receive an Iowa tax credit equal to 65 percent of the donation. The amount you contribute also qualifies as a charitable deduction on your federal tax return.
This year, St. John School will receive more than $40,000 in STO aid. The more we receive the lower we can keep tuition, so please choose St. John School on the form when making your contribution.
Visit www.OurFaithSto.org or call the Archdiocese of Dubuque at 800-876-3546 ext. 219 or 307 to learn more.

Save the date
Trunk or Treat will take place on Sunday, Oct.29 after Mass. Children are permitted to wear their costumes to Mass. Our middle school students will hold a pancake breakfast that morning as well, in the church basement, from 9am - noon. Eggs, sausage, pancakes and cinnamon rolls will be served. There is no charge for the meal, but donations are welcomed. The money raised during this event will be used to fund their 3-day Y-Camp field trip.

Feed the Hungry
Please join the students of St. John in celebrating one of Iowa’s and the world’s greatest heroes, Dr. Norman E Borlaug who worked very hard to alleviate world hunger! Dr. Borlaug has received the Congressional Medal, America’s highest civilian honor. He has also received the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal, all for his efforts to feed the hungry. State leaders decided to annually proclaim October 16th as Norman Borlaug World Food Prize Day. Please help us in celebrating our Iowa native by bringing items for the food pantry to present during our October 19th school Mass.

Pre-K4 thru 8th grade Christmas Concert
Our students invite you to attend our annual Christmas Music Concert on Wednesday, December 13th beginning at 6:00 p.m. with Pre-K, Kindergarten and First Grade, followed by the 2nd-8th grades at 6:30 p.m. The concert will take place in the St. John School gym.

Cancer Awareness
October is Cancer Awareness Month. All of us have known or been effected by someone who has been touched by cancer. It is a life changing experience, and one that does not always result in an outcome that we may have wanted. Students at St. John will unite in our efforts to help with cancer research by donating proceeds from the October 19th bake sale to the American Cancer Society, to help continue research to save lives.  We would also ask that your child wear one of the colors provided to show their support to cancer patients worldwide.
