Overcoming Barriers to Data Sharing including Privacy and Fairness

October 23-24
Rutgers University

For more information and to register, click here: http://dimacs.rutgers.edu/Workshops/Barriers/

This workshop will bring together computer scientists, legal scholars, and consumers of data to understand the extent to which privacy currently limits the sharing of data. Discussions will include but not be limited to research data and will seek to develop standards and best practices that enable new information flows in domains ranging from healthcare to energy.

A major focus of the workshop will be understanding the obstacles that exist for moving ideas from the research literature into practical application. Two technologies--multiparty computation and differentially private systems--will play an important role at the workshop, though a range of related tools from cryptography and security research will be discussed.

Executive Director René Bastón will keynote this conference at the University of New Hampshire with a talk on the Big Data landscape.

In business today, data is everywhere, and it’s a big deal. How your organization collects, analyzes and applies data is what separates you from competitors, allows you to make better decisions, and in the end, pads your bottom line. Yet, most companies don’t have the appropriate processes, procedures or personnel in place to harness the powerful data sitting right at their fingertips. Join for a deeper look at developing partnerships in big data and the growing intersection between the analytics industry and higher education.
