Catching while curable: new lung cancer screening trial shows promise

A glance at a bulletin board in her GP's waiting room changed everything for Vancouver resident Johan Burkhard. She noticed a poster advertising a lung cancer screening trial.

This study is recruiting patients with a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis to determine the relationship between advanced MRI measures and myelin health.

This study is recruiting older adults to investigate whether group education combined with a lifestyle program can improve both sleep quality and cognitive function.

This study is recruiting participants with type 2 diabetes to determine if peer support improves long-term diabetes-related health outcomes.

Health tips for managing lung disease

Adhere to your medications.
Take prescribed medications regularly as instructed—even when you start to feel better. 
Know your disease.
Learn about your lung disease. There are many resources out there, including physicians, respiratory educators, and the BC lung association.
Follow an action plan. 
Know what triggers affect you and avoid them if possible. Know your regular symptoms so you can monitor changes and manage your lung disease.
