An appeal from the Parents’ Forum

Do any parents, grandparents, carers or ex-pupils work in an interesting job? Do you know someone who has a fascinating career? The school has a Year 9 Careers Evening on Tuesday 7th November and we need people from a diverse range of businesses and industries to share their experiences, in an informal setting with our year 9 pupils. We would love to see representatives from creative industries, small entrepreneurial start-ups, technology and digital businesses. If you have an interesting story to tell based on your own experiences, which will help pupils to think about their future career path, then please get in touch. Call the school’s careers office on 01326 372379 or email Penryn College secretary@penryn-college.cornwall.sch.uk
School Charity 16/17 - Stanley's Friends

Every year, Penryn College students and staff together vote to choose a charity which the school supports with a variety of fundraising activities.  For the last school year, the pupils chose Stanley's Friends.

Stanley’s Friends is a local charity dedicated to supporting the needs of Stanley Barnes who, at 17 months, was diagnosed with a terminal and debilitating disease, Sanfilippo type A.

It has been our pleasure to celebrate the work of Stanley’s Friends on our Wall of Fame as well as supporting such a worthy local cause as our Penryn College school charity over the past year.

And what a year, the fundraising efforts by the students broke all previous records and the senior prefect team were delighted to present Stanley’s Friends with the proceeds of those fundraising efforts on Friday 13th October with a cheque for £2,143.81.

Year 8 and 9 Subject Review is on Thursday 9th November  3.45-5.45pm.
You will be able to book appointments on the Virtual School from 3.00pm on Tuesday 31st October.

Confidence and Esteem

“Self-confidence is the foundation of all great success and achievement.”
- Brian Tracy

Confidence is vitally important to a child’s future happiness, health, and success. Confident children are better equipped to deal with peer pressure, responsibility, frustrations, challenges, and both positive and negative emotions.
Confidence shapes a child’s life tremendously, and it’s one of the most important gifts parents and teachers can give to their children.
If you’re unsure where to start, pick a few strategies from this list to try implementing this week. Once you’ve mastered those, try a few more. (You probably found a few strategies on this list that you’re already using in your home or classroom too!)
Give kids opportunities to feel capable and competent, and demonstrate through words and actions that they are loved and valued.
With your support, the children in your care will grow into confident individuals who are happy, successful, and thriving.   Further details can be found at the bottom of the website letters page, here.

From The Attendance Team
Medical appointment such as doctors or dentist appointments should be taken outside of school hours. Whilst we understand that some medical appointments may occur during school hours, please can you ensure your child is not missing a whole day of school because of it.  If the appointment is early in the morning then students should come back into school straight after. If the appointment is in the middle of the day then students should attend school before the appointment.  If there is a reason why a child should need a whole day off, please contact the school and speak to the attendance officer.
