Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an increasingly “hot” topic these days.  Sharad Gandhi and Christian Ehl participated on our 30 November 2016 AGBC Exchange II panel discussion that addressed:  “Innovation – Advances in Digitization, Digitalization and New Business Models.”  Since then they have been very busy finalizing their new book AI&U.  As masters in helping us understand many of the implications, they will demystify AI and help us start to identify approaches for harnessing its power for advancing our organizations’ progress.

Here is the core thrust of the book:  “The next technology to create the biggest and widest impact on all aspects of our lifestyle, industries, and society has arrived. It is Artificial Intelligence (AI) with its newly acquired magic of Machine Learning. AI is the next big thing and will transform all businesses. AI is inevitable. Its progress and disruptive power is evidenced in a number of areas – like Apple Siri, IBM Watson and Tesla cars. The use of AI for future competitiveness and survival is a must.”

In the process of writing their book Christian and Sharad talked to AI experts in Europe, USA and Asia - business leaders and non-technical people. Through their research and discussions, they explored many facets of AI while identifying interesting insights about AI, its applications, and how our natural human intelligence works.

While the advancements in AI enable high productivity, these also translate as wealth for creators which can cause economic inequality.  Those not leading the development in AI have less chance to compete. The health and longevity of a few may improve significantly while the rest of the population may fall behind.  We will discuss the risks of economic inequality and start to consider steps needed to mitigate these effects.

Sharad Gandhi is a technology philosopher and strategist for creating business value with digital technologies. By education, he is a physicist and electronics engineer and a marketing strategist by profession. He is a global citizen having lived and worked in Europe, USA and India for leading companies - Intel, IBM, Siemens and Tata. In spite of being passionate about technology, he is aware and concerned about problems that technology creates. However, he believes that eventually technologies like the Internet, AI, robotics, biotech, genetics, new materials and Space will help create innovations and solutions for many of our global problems in environment, energy, inequality, poverty, health, and demography

Christian Ehl is an Internet activist and experienced entrepreneur with a passion for technology and how it transforms our lives and the way we do business. He is working to leverage Artificial Intelligence for a good future by working with various start-ups and corporations on AI projects. In addition to this, he is also involved in the Breakthrough Innovation work with the United Nations and the DO School. Christian is an active business angel and CEO of Hillert Interactive. He holds an electronics engineering degree from the Technical University of Munich and an MBA from Wake Forest University.

The Bayerische Philharmonie invites MING to a special German-American classical concert celebrating the debut of a new partnership between the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bayerische Philharmonie.  The first part of this concert features the American guest conductor Laurence Golan with musicians from the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra performing together with musicians from the Symphonie Orchestra of the Bayerische Philharmonie.  They will perform the “Magnificat” from Franz Schubert.  Following the “Magnificat” you will hear the choir of the Bayerische Philharmonie performing “Prayers without Words” presented by the American composer Laurence Traiger.

During the second part of this concert evening, the Bayerische Philharmonie will perform a composition of Mozart’s “Requiem.”  In a most beautiful, dark, menacing and mysterious, way, Mozart's last, still unfinished work leaves us today with many questions. The music of the "Requiem" bears tremendous intensity. The unusual circumstances of the composition and the temporal context of the requiem mass with Mozart's early death have inspired myth-making.  This mystery will make this autumn evening  a powerful and intense experience, one featuring soloists (soprano) Carmela Konrad, Ulrike Andersen (alt), Andreas Weller (tenor) and Alexander Kiechle (bass), as well as the choir and Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Philharmonic under the direction of Mark Mast.

As a special treat for the MING guests, you can participate in a concert introduction with the conductors in German and English language which will take place about an hour before the concert begins.

After a successful launch of #GivingTuesday last year, we celebrate the day of giving this year again in Germany on the 28 November 2017.

Our third annual Munich #GivingTuesday features 23 organizations and social startups who will introduce themselves as part of a market place at the Glockenbach Werkstatt.  The center point will be a special fundraising auction with the proceeds going completely to good causes.  There will be food, drinks and entertainment, and visitors have the chance to casually get to know organizations and support them by both donating time or money. Table for Two (TFT) - Doing Good for Society

Is your company or organization concerned about nutrition for its employees and staff?  Or about addressing world hunger as part of your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts?

Started in Japan and supported by more than 700 well-known, global corporate partners, the Table for Two initiative is now active in Munich and geared to provide funding for school lunches for children in areas highly impacted by hunger while promoting meals that provide high nutrition while reducing or preventing obesity.

Mission: In our world of 7 billion, 1 billion suffer from undernutrition, while nearly 2 billion suffer from obesity. Table for Two (TFT) counters this global food imbalance by addressing these opposing issues through a unique “calorie transfer” model.

How it works:  TFT partners with corporations, schools, restaurants and producers of consumer products, designating a healthy, slightly low calorie “TFT meal.” The reduced calories are monetized and the equivalent of €0.2 per meal is donated to provide school lunches in East Africa (5 countries), Southeast Asia (Philippines), rural China, and Syrian refugee camps in Jordan.  In the past, funds were also used to support gardening projects in Vietnam and Myanmar.

Company and organization canteen/cafeteria approach:

  • More than 700 organizations serve TFT’s healthy meal in their canteens.
  • The equivalent of €20cents is donated for every employee/member meal purchased and used to support children’s school lunches.
  • With no implementation cost, this is an effective, highly-visible way to communicate individual and social responsibility to employees/members.

The approach can also be used in canteens/cafeterias at schools (kindergarten to university), hospitals, etc. as well as for conferences, sports events and special action days (e.g. World Food Day).

Nutritious school lunches (with 1200 calories) transform local education by:
  • keeping students in school
  • boosting national test scores, and
  • Improving health conditions.

TFT also encourages the local communities to prepare nutritious school lunches and stimulate the local economy through the purchase of local produce.  In addition to the meals, the program includes educational and sustainability components through instruction on hygiene and nutritious eating (e.g. value of fruits and vegetables) and support of school gardens.

TFT partners with the UN’s World Food Programme (WFP) to support a food program and Innovation project in East Africa. In the past, TFT supported the school feeding program in Tanzania. For the next phase, they and the WFP team are discussing a next focus in East Africa, possibly Uganda or Malawi. TFT partners with other organizations in China and the Philippines.

The TFT team will be present at Thrive International’s #GivingTuesday on Tuesday, 28th Nov, as announced above.
