$20,000!  $20,000!  $20,000! $20,000!  $20,000!  $20,000!

The Healthy Paws Rescue Race to win $20,000 starts Friday, November 10th and runs through November 29th! This contest is super easy. The photo with the most votes wins $20,000 while the runner up will win $10,000, and the remaining organizations take home $5,000 each!

Please cast your vote for our entry photo of Zoey, adopted from AAR. When you click on the link, you will also be able to read Zoey's story, which is just wonderful. The $20,000 would come in super handy for our new building! Share our post and help us win the race!

A Dream Becomes Reality!

As we get closer to realizing our 10-year goal of having a shelter custom-built to the needs of rescued cats and dogs in our care, it's rewarding to reflect on how AAR achieved this dream. AAR started the non-profit paperwork in November of 2002 and, in 2003, moved into a leased liquor store that we converted to a spay/neuter clinic and a shelter that housed a few dogs and cats. There was no fenced-in area; all the dogs had to be walked on leash in the empty lot next door.

With hard work and great supporters, AAR was able to purchase the Hufsmith location in 2005 and then the 5 acres behind it. Although we originally intended to build the new shelter on those 6 acres, building and fire department
code made it too costly to extend a road to the back of the property. This motivated the search that ended with AAR purchasing the property at 32632 Wright Road in Magnolia. The existing house was easily converted into the Cattery, Lobby, and Clinic. The Dog Barn and Clark's Memorial Bark Park is being built further back.

Thanks to volunteer fundraising efforts and community support, the new shelter is being built debt-free. Although we have the funds to make the shelter move-in ready, we still have needs that can be met with your help. If you’d like to honor or remember a family member, pet or business, see our sponsorship opportunities.

All the pets, volunteers, committee members and board thank you for standing by us for 15 years!
