How long have you been an ASTA member?
I have been a member of ASTA since 1973. That is 45 years of membership in a great professional organization. I will remain a member and supporter of ASTA because it continues to provides the best in string research and innovative educational ideas.
What is your favorite ASTA benefit?
ASTA provides many benefits to its members. Two of my favorites are the ASTA magazine, which provides a great forum for new teaching methods, and of course the terrific ASTA instrument insurance program.
What is your favorite teaching memory?
Teachers are often asked about a favorite teaching memory. One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is that there are so many, it's hard to pick just one. For me. it is when a student experiences that "Ah Ha" moment... when they recognize and understand a difficult musical or technical concept they had been struggling to learn.
Any books or materials that have recently inspired you as an educator?
Being a cellist, I would have to say the wonderful book, Joys and Sorrows by Pablo Casals has provided guidance for me since my youth. His work ethic, love of music and artistic integrity has inspired be throughout my career.
