We are now a month and a half into the term, and have already had a lot of activity on and off campus, for both students and staff. Looking forward into the next month, there will be even more excitement, as we gear up towards the 25th anniversary celebration. If you can make it, we would love to see you there! Register your attendance online - and let your friends and family know about the event, too! All welcome!
Highlights of the last month...
UWC Day (21 Sept)
To celebrate UWC Day and the International Day of Peace, the LPCUWC staff and student community got together to make 'peace flags'. Led my Wendy and her Visual Art students, everyone illustrated their own designs, with the theme of peace and diversity, and block-printed them onto small canvas squares to be strung together. The joined-up flags are now proudly adorning our courtyard area.
Yao Cultural Exchange (1 Oct)
Every year, we have a cultural exchange event with Hong Kong Po Yin Association for the Development of Education. The NGO invites students from Liannan Minju Senior High School, in rural China, to participate in the programme. The students demonstrated traditional Yao (Chinese ethnic minority) songs and dances, whilst our students performed lion, and Spanish dances, as well as theatre and kung fu.
Change of Pace Day - Block Activities (11 Oct)
This Change of Pace (COP) Day meant that all students got a day off from their usual classroom lessons, and instead, took part in outdoor and nature exploration activities. Splitting into the four Blocks, each group had a different activity - from hiking and beach games in Repulse Bay and Sai Kung, taking the ferry to Lamma island, or visiting the Hong Kong Wetland Park. A fun and sweaty day!
UWC Info Day (14 Oct)
More than 300 people attended the UWC Info Day. During the event, visitors not only got to know more about our college, but also about other UWC colleges, and what makes a UWC education special. We hope that we will be seing some of the prospective students again at LPCUWC in the near future. Thank you to all the alumni and parents who also came to help out on the day.
Looking forward to...
African Cultural Evening (21 Oct)
The first Cultural Evening this year is ACE, celebrating the diversity of African culture. Students are already busy practicing and planning for their performances and conjuring up a delicious menu of traditional dishes from all around Africa. We can't wait!
China Week (29 Oct - 5 Nov)
First year students will get the chance to experience China and different aspects of diverse Chinese culture at the end of the month. China Week also has a focus on community service and personal challenge, with group trips across the border, and around Hong Kong.
UWC Info Day (12 Nov)
In case you missed the last one, our second Information Day will take place on Sun 12 Nov. Bring friends and family to let them know more about the UWC educational experience, what life is like at LPCUWC, the admissions and scholarships process, and tour around campus.
25th Anniversary countdown! (25 Nov)
Just a few weeks to go before the big day! LPCUWC is turning 25 years old with a celebration event on Sat 25 Nov, inviting all UWC students, teachers, staff, alumni, parents, families, and volunteers of the past and present. Sign up for your ticket and stay tuned for more details on the event schedule.
