Hi All
We had a super turn out on Saturday for our OPEN DAY, and met some lovely families and their children. The word is spreading and the excitement rising with the fact that we are opening our new ‘baby class’ next year. Please continue to spread the word.

On Friday this week we will have our Sea Horse Cake Sale. PLEASE REMEMBER TO SEND IN R5 WITH YOUR CHILD. We have found that although we give all the children a share of the special treats and yummy goodies provided, NOT ALL THE CHILDREN BRING IN THEIR R5. This is a fundraising initiative and we really do need your support here.

TOUR DE FISH HOEK
This wonderful event and child friendly function will take place on Saturday 28th Oct at False Bay college top car park from 8.45am –about 11.30am.
(We use the False Bay Car Park as it provides us with a safe space to ride and cheer.)
Please let family and friends know and come and cheer your children as they ride around a designated track to your applause.
During the event we sell bacon and cheese rolls, doughnuts and pancakes, coffee/tea/hot chocolate, and cool drinks. Tickets are sold prior to the event and on the day for use at these stalls.
Rosters will be up outside your child’s classrooms this week so that you can assist by putting your name down at a time that you can help serve at the stall.
THE STALLS WILL BE CLOSED DURING THE RALLY SO THAT YOU DO NOT MISS OUT ON SEEING YOUR CHILD!
We transport all the bikes and things needed for the event from school that morning, so if you can assist with your bakkie it will be much appreciated. Please let me or your class rep know.

PLEASE NOTE!
On Friday 27th October we ask that you please bring your child’s bike, black motor bike, scooter to school with your child in the morning. The teachers do a little practice with the children on Friday morning just outside the school.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD’S BIKE IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER AND PLEASE PUT THEIR NAME ON THE BIKE SO THAT WE CAN IDENTIFY IT.
The back wooden gate will be open on Friday morning 27th Oct for you to park the bikes. Please put the bikes in the allocated class spots.

AFRICA A+
We continue to work with A+ Facilitators to enhance your children’s learning experience.

Your child is so lucky to have the wonderful opportunities at Fish Hoek Pre-Primary to learn through play, experiences, concrete examples, interactive play and collaboration. Learning to question, make decisions and be creative in their thoughts, and actions. Making them the leaders of tomorrow!!!

WORMS! WORMS! WORMS! AND WORM TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have some deliciously fat worms in our wormery at school as well as worm tea that we would like to sell or swop for some vegetables for our veggie garden or plants, particularly cacti for the bed at the front gate.
We are having trouble with vagrants sleeping in the flower bed and need to plant some ‘spiky’ plants to deter them.
Please come and chat with us in the office if you have an interest in the worms.

FACEBOOK
If there are parents or family members still waiting to be accepted into our closed facebook group, please let me know so that I can accept them. Sometimes I do not recognise the name.

WANTED
WE NEED NEWSPAPER PLEASE!!!!
Thank you to those parents who have brought in paper for us. Please continue to bring it in.
We really are desperate for paper for the children to draw and paint on. It seems that businesses don’t seem to have re-cycled paper for us either. I guess it’s our paperless world!!!!  It’s good in a way but doesn’t make it easier for us.
If you know of any businesses that could assist us please let us know.

Class News

Sea Horse

Good Afternoon to all the Seahorse parents.
I pray everyone had a blessed weekend. This week we are back into the swing of things and it’s going to be a busy few weeks in this term.
Please bear with me if I am busy at times as I have many things to prepare, before I leave for maternity. If there is any need to talk or discuss something in particular with me, please feel free to let me know and I would gladly open up some time to have a chat.

Last week our children were excited to have their first Junior Jive session and enjoyed every minute of it.
We also took the week to settle back into routine.
On Saturday the school had our 2nd Open Day and it went off pretty well.

"FRIDAY 20 OCTOBER 2017" will be Seahorse cake sale. It would be much appreciated for every parent to contribute cakes to the cake sale.

Our Tour De Fish Hoek will be taking place on Saturday 28th October please diaries this date and bring along family and friends for the support.

Our Nativity Play and Graduation will be at 3pm on Saturday 25 November. Please let me know if your child will not be attending as we are discussing the various roles and characters. The children are asked what they would like to be and I try and accommodate all of them. We have been watching DVDs of other concerts and they are very excited about the play.
The children were very happy to be back at school and had a very busy week. I have started a group star chart. The children need to work as a team to earn stars for their group and at the end of the week the group with the most stars wins. This week the rectangles were our winners. Throughout the year we have discussed working co-operatively in our EQ lessons. Merle and I have been amazed at the quality of work this week and at how quietly the groups have worked. They are also trying so much harder during lessons. Let’s hope it lasts!
In Mathematics we will be concentrating on number 10, adding and subtracting. Last week we played games and compared numbers and their quantity. The children were given an equal number of cats and dog and asked how they could make more dogs than cats. We then discussed adding on as they said we must put more dogs in the pile. I then asked them to do it in another way and they said I can take away cats. We compared the difference between subtraction and addition. This was introduced last week but I will continue to do addition and subtraction games and exercises for the rest of the year.
In our language activities the children are playing phonics and alphabet games and written activities that require matching words. The children are enjoying the challenge of blending and reading words.
We will be doing our last Wordworks Story, The Big Wave.
We will continue to go for goals and the tasks we set the children are all skills required in Grade 1. I urge you to encourage your child to extend the following skills at home: tying a shoe lace, writing their name and surname, know date of birth and address. In our movement lessons we will continue to practice skipping with a rope.
Please remember to put sun-cream on your children and to send them to school with caps or hats.
It is a busy term so please diarise dates and keep them free especially for our concert and graduation. I w

Number Concepts:  Counting forwards to 20 correctly, Number Recognition to 10, Ability to sort into Shapes/Colours, More/Less/Equal
The Starfish class had a fun first week back at school.  They are so enthusiastic to learn about "Wild Animals" and have been very creative in the Art Room.  Please encourage them to bring story and factual books about our theme.
We also have been chatting about "Change": How we can change?,  How our environment can change?,  How we have changed since the beginning of the year.  We have also been chatting about our feelings when change occurs.  Sometimes we feel excited, sometimes we feel anxious or scared and that it is OK to have these feelings.
Please continue to encourage your child when drawing to use the correct pencil grip in order to have good control when drawing.  Please correct them if necessary as a habit begins to form.  Also encourage them to add  lots of details and colour.  When cutting, encourage them to follow the outlines closely always cutting carefully.  When holding the scissors,  place thumb in top hole and two fingers in bottom for better cutting control.
Continue to play number games, involving counting and recognition of numbers.  Also play games involving concepts like more/less and equal, e.g. You have 5 carrots on your plate and daddy has 3.  Who has more?  If you eat two carrots, how many do you have left?  Who has more now, you or daddy?
On Friday I told the children what part they will be playing in our Nativity Concert.  This week I will send their lines home to learn.  Please practise at night when in the bath or just before bed.  Please encourage your child to say their lines slowly and loudly, not shouting or speeding like a train.  Our Nativity Concert in on Saturday 25 November.  Please diarise this date.
