November General Membership Meeting & ELECTIONS
Our next meeting is an important one for the neighborhood, as it's the meeting in which we elect our leadership for the coming year. Underwood Hills needs you! We're looking for fresh faces that want to take the next step in being more active in their community. It's an amazing way to meet neighbors, and learn more about what's going on in our immediate area and how it affects Underwood Hills. Every position will be up for election, but we specifically need people to fill the following roles:
- Secretary
- Membership
- Communications (which includes Sponsorship, Webmaster, and Newsletter... these are best handled by individuals in each role)
- Elections
While one person is officially elected for each position, we encourage people to get involved in the committees, as many of the steering committee positions are best handled by a few people. With a little time from some great neighbors, we can continue to ensure Underwood Hills is a great place to live! To learn more about the positions available, click here. Please contact Adam Karcz at javamugboy@gmail.com with questions or to express interest in a position.

The UHNA Play Group Halloween Party will be held this Saturday, October 21 from 4-6PM at Underwood Hills Park. Fire Station 23 will be on hand to judge the costume contest and will be bringing pumpkins and decorations to help kids decorate! Sponsors AT&T and The Sitter Tree will also be there with goodies and games. We ask that families bring a dish to share if you'd like and Play Group will provide drinks, paper goods and the like.

UHERO: Underwood Hills Emergency Response Operation
Those of you who attended the last Underwood Hills Neighborhood Association meeting heard the discussion about forming an emergency response team for the neighborhood. Since the next training opportunity that the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department can provide won't occur until next March, below is a link to the online FEMA course for Community Emergency Response Teams. The training is free, and you go at your own pace. It would be very helpful to our Underwood Hills efforts to have as many people as possible take this training. Beginning in mid-November we will provide supplementary information and training sessions for UHNA members. Our focus will be on the needs of the Underwood Hills community.
To access the FEMA course, go to: https://training.fema.gov/is/courseoverview.aspx?code=IS-317

Non-Profit Spotlight: Kate's Club
Kate's Club is a local non-profit that focuses on helping children age 5 through 18 navigate grief after the loss of a parent, guardian or sibling. All Kate's Club (KC) programs and services are completely free to the families utilizing them. KC's mission is to empower children facing life after the death of a parent or sibling. KC creates healing communities through recreational and therapeutic group programs, education, and advocacy. Kate's Club has supported (and is supporting) several UH families after losses.
The 6th Annual Memory Walk is coming up on November 12 from 10AM to 1PM in Piedmont Park. UH neighbor and KC Board Member Kristin Olson and her family will be walking and would love you to join their team or support it with a donation. November also kicks off the holiday season and is known as #BlueNovember because it is usually a more difficult time for those coping with grief and loss, which makes the Memory Walk a special time for families to gather and remember those loved ones we've lost far too soon. If you have any questions about Kate's Club or would like to learn more about this amazing organization, please email Kristin.
