P&Z Candidate forum coming up Wednesday

Come out to meet the candidates and hear why we need Democrats on the P&Z!  Pre-register for Wednesday 10/18 P&Z Candidates

Eric Fanwick

I moved to Wilton 18 years ago, not only for the quality of the schools but the quality of the life. I believe Wilton to be a excellent balance of residential and commercial space. And to help preserve that balance I have spent most of the past 16 years on land use boards.  I believe that good zoning regulations and a detail master plan are key elements to maintaining the nature of Wilton.

What this service has taught me that everyone who comes before the board does so for their own personal reasons but it is the board’s responsibility to speak for the town.

The town now has new challenges in that both retail and commercial vacancies are up and P&Z will play a vital role in setting the rules to fill this empty space while not destroying Wilton in the process. I ask for your support in helping me accomplish this goal.

Fanwick, who previously served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for 5 years, has served on the Water Pollution Control Authority for 7 years. He is a senior systems analyst for OrthoNet, a leading health care management company headquartered in White Plains, and formerly ran his own technology consulting company.

Doris Knapp

I feel privileged to have been asked to serve on the Planning and Zoning Commission again because I believe that preserving the residential and historical character of the town is of paramount importance.

The Commission needs to insure that it pursues policies that not only protect the special character of Wilton but also enhance the quality of life for its residents. It should create a framework for planned and controlled growth as well.

My goal for serving on the Commission is to make sure that the present and future needs of Wilton are met in a sensible manner. We need to preserve what makes Wilton so special while thoughtfully planning for the future. Those plans include considering Wilton Center improvements, opportunities for attracting and retaining business, making Wilton more attractive for families with and without children and for a variety of ages and considering the town’s taxation policies.

Knapp, who has served on the Commission for 10 years and is currently its Secretary, has lived in Wilton for 45 years. She is an attorney specializing in family and juvenile practice, having represented children and parents in child protection, abuse and neglect matters.

Bas Nabulsi

I have previously served on Wilton’s Planning & Zoning Commission for more than ten years and have lived in Wilton for 25 years.  I have been away from the Commission for several years, and am now seeking a return because I believe my experience and understanding of the role to played by the Commission in the Town’s development would be valuable at this time.  In particular, careful consideration and implementation of a new Plan of Development and Conservation is important, both in the short and long term. Of equal importance is a thoughtful and analytical approach to each application that is presented to the Commission, developing a full record of the Applicant’s position and how the proposed development fits with the Town’s regulations and furthers the objectives of the Town. While emotions may be high in a particular matter, it is vital that the Commission be open-minded and fair to all participants in the process. I believe that my previous work on the Commission has demonstrated my skills in this regard and that my legal background well-positions me to work with the Commission over the next two years.

A former 3-term member of the commission, Nabulsi was a member of the commission when it developed its current Plan of Conservation and Development. He is a partner in the Stamford law firm, McCarter & English, and specializes in intellectual property law. He has also served on the boards of the World Affairs Forum and the Women’s Business Development Council. He has lived in Wilton for 35 years.
