Global Game Jam® 2018 - let's get the Jam on.
#GGJ18 : Jammer Registration is now open!
Get ready to jam, because jammer registration is now open! Spread the word - anyone can now sign up to be a part of the 2018 Global Game Jam.

We already have 446 jammers signed up in 265 jam sites located in 63 countries.

No site near you? There is still time to register a jam site! If you have been thinking about registering a site, but haven't gotten around to it yet - now is the time. Register now on our website. The only things you need to open a jam site are a dedicated organizer and a jam venue with internet access. Read our GGJ Manual and Frequently Asked Questions to learn more about setting up a site.

If your local site is not accepting registrations via the Global Game Jam website yet, check with them directly as they may have a local sign up process.
Introducing GGJNext
What is the future of the Global Game Jam? GGJNEXT™ is a game jam and curriculum dedicated to young creators (age 12-17) - our first jams will be held in July 2018.

We think that all children around the world should have the opportunity to learn the digital literacy lessons, including the skills and tools that game development employs, (STEAM, leadership, collaboration and curiosity).

Although founded in games, we do not expect to turn everyone into game developers, but instead, to give children soft and hard skills as well as software mastery that will help them gain confidence to further their dreams. We expect to expand their experience with digital tools, gaining understanding and motivation to succeed. Participants will learn skills that will benefit their lives, providing healthy curiosity and a foundation in which to grow. Find out more about GGJNext.
Introducing your new EP, EC, ROs, ED and chair of ICGJ!
GGJ would not run without the help of all the wonderful people who give up their time to help all over the world. This year we want to introduce:
Get started with Unity Game Dev Courses

Get started with Unity or hone up on the fundamentals with our Unity Game Dev Courses. These structured courses teach the core skills you need to build a Unity game. You get hands-on experience producing scripts, animating objects, and adding lighting. We also show you how to work with digital content creation tools like Maya and Photoshop. Best of all, you get to work with the AAA-quality game assets for the dungeon crawler Swords and Shovels.

Ready for more? Jump into Augmented Reality. Learn everything you need to know to build AR applications using ARKit and Unity with the ARKit Nanodegree Foundations. In this one-month program, you'll master the skills to effectively “sell” the illusion of a synthetic object set in a real-life scene, in real time.

ICGJ 2018 Deadlines approaching!

The International Conference on Game Jams, Hackathons and Game Creation Events (ICGJ) is an awesome one-of-a-kind academic conference on the subject of game jams. Do you have a research study about game jams or one that is validated during a jam? Have you created a unique and interesting game jam experience (or a GGJ location) that you'd like to report on? Have you had awesome games that were designed during your jam? Do you have ideas about how to make jams better? The ICGJ has tracks for all these things!

Join us for a fun and educational one-day conference published by the ACM. ICGJ is on March 18, 2018 (day before GDC) in San Francisco. Most submissions deadlines are in December.

Where are they now?   iO

At the Global Game Jam 2012 in Hilversum, the Netherlands, four programmers who never met before formed Team Extra. The team built a prototype of an abstract physics platformer with five playable levels, which they named Size Matters.

After the GGJ, Gamious contacted the team. Together they turned the prototype into a fully polished version with 150 levels. The game was released with the name iO in April 2014 and is currently available on all major platforms.

The game got several nominations, like Finalist at IndieCade 2014, honorable mentions at GDC 2015 and the Dutch Game Awards 2014 as well as a spot on the 2014 European Innovative Game Awards shortlist.

Roy van Bijsterveldt from Gamious says: "For Gamious, iO was the first game they released on several platforms. For the original team it meant a great kickstart for their careers, earning jobs at great studios like Engine Software (Terraria) and DoubleDutch games (Speedrunners). For me personally it meant the kickstart of my own gaming career, so the game did a lot of good for a lot of people."

VRfree® mobile glove system by Sensoryx
On October 12th, Sensoryx proudly presented the first mobile hand- and fingertracking sensor system with fully integrated 3D-positioning to the public. Our VRfree® system consists of two lightweight gloves and a small headmount for the HMD.

We were able to stress-test the system with more than 1,000 users at the Zürich Game Show and the Swiss Indoors Tournament. We were blown away by the excited and enthusiastic reaction of users about the fluency, precision and lack of latency of the system. Their positive reactions and the eagerness to use our system encouraged us to make VRfree® available to jammers this year!
