INTERIM DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE
_____________________________________________
With Veterans Day just around the corner, we'd like to not only say thank you to those who have served our country, but also honor those who have worked hard, and continue to work to help homeless veterans find housing.

In this month's Keep Austin Affordable video, we're featuring a former Marine who is overcoming mental disorders with the help of Veterans Affairs, Integral Care and Green Doors. He now has his own apartment at Green Doors' Treaty Oaks complex, which was redeveloped with 1.3 million dollars from the 2006 affordable housing bonds and the Housing Trust Fund.

We also have much more information to pass along about our Housing + Economic Opportunity Summit scheduled for February 9, 2018, which we are hosting in conjunction with the Federal Reserve Banks of Dallas. Registration will open soon. Make plans to join us as we explore ways housing can play a role in creating economic mobility for residents. We are proud to announce JP Morgan Chase will be the presenting sponsor for the summit, as part of its corporate commitment to promoting economic opportunity. We still have many other sponsorship opportunities available. You can find information about all this on our website. Thanks.

Roger's Story
Waging War Against PTSD - Veteran Find a Home and Healing

In 2016, Austin underwent a major push, led by Mayor Adler, to find homes for homeless veterans in the city. One of those vets was former Marine Roger Galindo. Roger's life had taken some tragic turns as he struggled with PTSD brought on by combat duty and other mental disorders. In this Keep Austin Affordable video feature, find out how affordable housing funded through the 2006 housing bonds and the Housing Trust Fund is helping Roger "put the pieces back together." Watch it here.

Housing + EO
Event to Explore How Housing Can Create Economic Mobility
HousingWorks Austin and the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas are bringing together diverse audiences to better understand challenges and opportunities around creating equitable economic opportunities for all. How can we ensure that children from disadvantaged backgrounds have the same prospects for success as their affluent peers? What role can safe and affordable housing play in improving opportunities for all? The summit will attempt to answer these questions while focusing on Austin and the Central Texas region. Learn more about this event on our website.

Chase LMI Report
Chase Releases Report on Austin Low- and Middle-Income Housing
As part of its commitment to corporate responsibility, JP Morgan Chase funded research by the Urban Institute about how the lack of affordable housing is affecting low- and middle-income households in Austin. That report was released at an event on October 10, which also included a panel discussion about solutions. Read more on our website.
