Directors Report

We are only two weeks away until juniors commence their summer season and over the last few weeks the activity around the club has increased as we see the return of many of our members. The club offers so many opportunities for everyone to play a role and be involved. It is people’s willingness to step up that has made Trigg the successful community hub that we see today so let the trend continue and don’t be shy.
It is with great pleasure that I welcome back all of our current major sponsors and supporters for the 2017/18. It is their generosity that contributes to the club remaining sustainable. It is the work you do as volunteers serving the community that has secured much needed funding for this season.
I would like to thank 3 Oceans Property who have very generously awarded the Club $3000 in grant funding through the Iconic Scarborough Community Chest fantastic news and a great initiative!!! The funding will be used to purchase much needed lifesaving equipment and we look forward to hosting representatives from 3 Oceans at our club on a Sunday morning.
Finally, I am pleased to confirm that we are officially relaunching the Tower to Tower event to be held at Trigg beach on 16 December 2017. This year we are going to be changing the format and for the first time ever we are introducing a SUP and Paddleboard component to complement the traditional iconic swim race! The Trigg Island T2T Ocean Classic promises to be an exciting event with cash prizes for open male and female competitors and vouchers for juniors.
Big shout out to our volunteers who have stepped up. Without their involvement and support the running of the event would not be possible.
Also, thank you to our confirmed event sponsors to date!
If you are a business and would like to sponsor the event then please make contact and we can discuss options available. If you want to be involved as a volunteer on the day then we have plenty of roles that need to be filled so please call/text me.
See you on the beach!

EDUCATION UPDATE

The first school holiday Bronze group passed with flying colours and we now have 13 new "Bronzies". Well done to 12 Youth and Max our new French member.  A special thanks to Mike Cook, without whom these courses wouldn’t get off the ground.  Also to Peter and Jenny Taylor, Elana Mulvay and Maddie Rimmer who helped out with training. Gabby Jolliffe and Dick Hartley performed the Preliminary Assessment and John Rhatigan and Pip Hawson were the assessors. Elana and Lachlan Meldrum manned the IRB for the final assessment so a great team effort overall. Kudos to everyone
If you want to be part of the November Course (Wed nights and Sat mornings) with assessment on Saturday 9th December 2017 please email me at education@triggisland.com.
Also a big shout out to Nick Journet and Dave Reid who recently up-skilled 22 members to get their ART AID certificate.  These courses don’t just happen and I know the effort you put in so thanks!
Finally if there’s anyone out there who wishes to become a Trainer please let me know as there is a course this weekend.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) Camp – Calling for Nominations

The Rotary Club of Karrinyup, one of our Clubs long time financial supporters is seeking nominations from interested parties to attend next year’s Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camp to be held in January 2018. RYLA is Rotarians working with youth in leadership development. RYLA is an intensive training program for youth aiming to be leaders in our community. Young people aged 18-25, chosen for their leadership potential, attend a 7 day camp, organised by Rotarians. Australia needs to develop proactive youth leaders with self-confidence and a capacity to be positive role models to others. The impact of the program spreads well beyond the week as the awardees influence other young people as they return to their community. Please see the attached flyer for further information on how to apply.
