AY KARATSU!
with Mike Martino

Our next workshop is with International guest artist Mike Martino who hails from Japan where he has become an informal ambassador for Karatsu ceramics. Karatsu was one of the earliest ceramic styles and widely respected and collected by the 16c tea ceremony practitioners for its rustic, earthy nature embodying the wabi-sabi aesthetic.

Mike comes to Slow Clay Centre during his Australian visit where he will present two events: a lecture/presentation on Karatsu ceramics, including his experiences digging wild clays in Karatsu, and a one day workshop where he will demonstrate a ton of throwing techniques and a fascinating range of traditional tools! Mike will bring a few of his beautiful pieces for sale and also some special pottery tools from Karatsu. His knowledge and experience as a studio potter based in Japan will make for fascinating learning and we encourage you to take up one of these few last spots!
