This Saturday, join Oakland Urban Paths as Stan Dodson of the Oakland Trails program leads us on a less 'urban' path, from the Dimond district up the Sausal Creek watershed to Joaquin Miller Park and Chabot Space and Science Center. Sign up.
This Sunday, we will ride with the Oakland Museum of California's curators to significant sites of African American History. We'll hear vivid stories illustrating African-American life in Oakland over the last 150 years including the Pullman Porters union and the Black Panthers. Sign up.

Bike Share for All
Over 100 bike sharing programs across the country are changing our cities for the better. When streets are optimized for biking and fewer cars are on the road, everyone gets to their destination more safely. In many densely-populated cities, bike share has become an essential extension of the shared transit system. Despite this increasing popularity, bike sharing programs have lagged behind in reaching lower-income populations.
Bike Share for All wants to bridge this gap by offering initial year-long bikeshare memberships for only $5. Bike Share for All is eligible to Bay Area residents who qualify for Calfresh, SFMTA (Low Income) Lifeline Passes or PG&E CARE utility discount. In the second year, memberships increase to a deeply discounted $5/month. No credit card or smart phone is required - users can sign up with cash and can check out a bike using a clipper card. Harrison & 23rd Street Intersection Improvement
 In June, longtime nonprofit social justice leader Robert Bennett was killed in a hit and run while walking his dog in a crosswalk near Lake Merritt. This preventable tragedy spurred a quick response from the City's newly-formed Department of Transportation. The intersection now includes bike lanes, ramps for disabled access, a protected median, and a more visible white and bright purple crosswalk.
Since the redesign, there has been an 86% increase in drivers stopping for pedestrians in the crosswalk. These results show that streets can be designed to safely move drivers, bikers, and walkers. And that dangerous areas can be fixed quickly. But it should not take a senseless death to develop common-sense safety solutions. WOBO will continue to advocate for pedestrian rights in comment letters, through conversations with City staff, and in public meetings so no other family suffers so needlessly.
