Breaking Bread
Jumpstarting the day with God's word for the week ahead.

Google This

o you ever feel overwhelmed with the vast amount of instant information that is available online? One click and you can get any amount of information about absolutely anything. Sometimes my brain gets tired of reading/watching/listening to the unbelievable amount of stuff that is on the net. I wish we could go back to the simpler times when smart phones didn’t take up all our energy. Constant communication and interaction can be exhausting!

Daniel the prophet predicted that in the end times “many would run here and there to increase knowledge.” Daniel didn’t know about Google, but  that kind of sounds like somebody browsing on their phone or computer all day.

Sometimes I feel bad that I’ve forgotten stuff. Am I getting old? Is there something wrong with my brain that I can’t remember all this stuff that’s out there? Why won’t Google stick in my brain???????

Here’s what I suggest.
  1. Decide what’s important for your life and learn only that. Make it personal. Only Google what you need to know.
  2. Learn with an eternal purpose. Ask: “do I need to learn this?” Learn all you can about God and His ways - that’s eternal.
  3. Don’t even try to know everything about everything. Specialize in something. Be good at something. Work at learning something well - that’s focus.
  4. Don’t feel guilty about what you don’t know. Some things you don’t need to learn. But never stop learning what you need - that’s growth.
And then there is the old famous cliché, “It’s not WHAT you know, but WHO you know”. This is TRUTH. To know HIM, to know JESUS, is way better than anything you could find on Google or Bing or whatever. Put your phone down. Focus on Him. He is still the most important person in the universe to know.

 MEDITATE

Are you intent on continuously learning more about God and how you can fulfill your purpose in life? How driven are you to learn new things that would enrich your way of life?

  STUDY

Psalm 119:15-16
I will meditate on Your precepts and regard Your ways. I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word.
Reading Plan: Galatians 5 - Ephesians 5

 PRAY

Heavenly Father, may I pursue you even in my learning. May I never stop searching for truth, especially truth that comes from you. I pray that you will give me opportunities to share what I learn to others, that I may bring them closer to you.

 LIVE

Instead of Googling, ask your pastor or life group leader for a reading list, and set a goal to finish at least one book a month. They may even lend you their books so you don't have to spend as much to get it done. After reading, list down any questions you might have talk to them about it. #Truth #DelightintheWord
