Poa Grass: Your Lawns' Nemesis

What is Poa Annua Grass? Most lawns have a common weed you may not know about - Poa annua grass. Also known as "annual bluegrass," this weed looks like grass, is taller than most grass and has a brighter, green color. Sound familiar? It is easy to spot in Zoysia, Bermuda and Centipede grass when the lawn goes dormant.

It Damages & Discolors your Lawn. Poa Annua plants grow rapidly with creeping roots that displaces existing grass. Poa grass creates bright green patches that die out in hot weather. When the cooler weather comes, it Poa thrives and produces seeds that germinate now and next spring. The result - more Poa grass throughout your lawn! For more Poa facts, check out Wikipedia.

How to Control it. You can prevent Poa seeds from  germinating by applying a "pre-emergent/post-emergent treatment" to your lawn. Our customer's favorite product is the "Hi-Yield Weed Stopper with Dimension."

Control a multitude of weeds with Dimension:
  • It stops the germination of Poa grass, crabgrass seeds & 47 other grassy/broadleaf weeds
  • Knocks out young broadleaf weeds
  • Since it is a granular product, it is easily applied with a spreader. Works for 3-4 months
Since Dimension prevents seeds from germinating, do not plant grass seed during treatment. Call us for more information and advice.
