Day 7: A Prayer for Peace

In 1979 a significant event happened that started a turn of downhill events for the country of Liberia. It was called the rice riots. Most of the major iron ore companies had shut down and there was a large number of people left unemployed. At the same time there was a sudden shortage of rice in the world market which is a staple in Liberia. People were hungry. Suddenly ordinary everyday people were desperate and blamed the government and demanded that they fix the problem.
 
Soon large groups of people took to the streets demonstrating and unfortunately what people would not normally do by themselves or in a small group was violently carried out in a large group. It's called mob mentality and without Christ as your Lord and Savior it can easily happen. We are praying that it does not happen again in Liberia when the time comes for the election results to be announced. We are praying for peace.
 
Dear God, We are praying that those who know the Lord will be wise and use words with restraint and be even tempered because it is mockers that stir up a city but the wise who turn away anger. We are praying that on the day that they announce the election results, whenever that might be, that peace would reign in Liberia, no matter what the results. Let us be people who are calm and even-tempered who are able to recognize your sovereignty and petition for your will to be done each and every day. Teach all of us to say “no” to ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. Thank you that you hear our prayers. Thank you for being with the country of Liberia during this election season. May you continue to stay with her and to guide her people in the months to come as a new leader prepares to take office. In your Holy Name, Amen.
 

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. THANK YOU for your prayers this past week. We know that God hears the cries of His people and we thank you for crying out to Him on behalf of and alongside of the Liberian people. These next few months will continue to be a test of democracy in Liberia, so we ask that you continue to keep in prayer all the things we have been praying for these past 7 days.Ultimately, we are asking for God's will to be done and Him to be glorified in all things.
