Dear Students, Families, Alumni, Parishioners, and Friends of ASB School,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween!  The week kicked off with our annual Halloween Carnival, held at St. Bridget.  Huge thank you to Jenn Anderson, Heidi Bruch, and their team for all of the hard work that went into this fun event.  We had a fantastic spirit assembly on Monday, planned and led by our Student Leadership Team.  The mummy challenge, pie-eating contest, and dance competition - congratulations to Gael Loor in 8th grade, our dance champion! - brought out the Halloween spirit in all of us.  Yesterday, the halls were filled with superheroes, performers, athletes, scientists, and many more creative costumes.  Thank you to all of the parents who came in for a spooktacular day.

This morning, the students of 5B led us in our celebration mass for All Saints’ Day.  We look to the saints for reminders and examples of how to respond to God’s call to love and care for all whom we encounter, particularly in times of challenge.  The month of November is also when we prayerfully remember all of those who have gone on to be with God.  Our front hallway is filled with hearts, naming the many people our students remember with love.  Please stop by the front hall and add your own heart to our prayer table.  As we remember each of these special people and the powerful ways they impacted our lives, let us also honor them through our interactions with and genuine care of those around us.

I was thinking the other day about how fast the year is going and the busyness of the fall season, a sentiment that I am sure many of you share.  That, of course, led to panic as I realized that November and December will be even busier!  Grandparents’ and Family Friends Day, Thanksgiving, Advent and all of the festivities of Christmas…before you know it, we will be wishing each other a relaxing Christmas vacation.  As we all have experienced, often the busier we get, the lower our patience and higher our frustration.  Inevitably, we will all have these moments in the coming months.  As we look towards the building excitement of the upcoming seasons, as the weather gets darker and rainier, as patience may wear thin, let us each be mindful of the following:
  • There are always two sides to the pancake, no matter how thin.  - Mike Foy
  • We should look for those moments of incarnation that make our community fun, exciting, and life-giving.
  • The answer to the question can be found somewhere, we just need to spend the time looking. (Hint: Like reading the newsletter!)
  • Everyone should have the audacity to expect the best in the most difficult of circumstances.
  • Most importantly, love is a verb.
As we head into the weekend, let's wish our 6th grade boys a huge GOOD LUCK in the championship soccer game on Saturday!

Best,
Kathleen Conklin

Our next Open House is next Tuesday, November 7th, 9:00 - 10:30am!

The Assumption St. Bridget Theatre Ensemble proudly presents the beloved family classic, L.M. Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables dramatized by Joseph Robinette and directed by Julie Olsen!

Meet Anne Shirley, or Anne with an “E”, a fanciful orphan mistakenly sent to live with two unmarried older siblings looking for a strong farmhand.  From the second she arrives at the snug white farmhouse called Green Gables on majestic Prince Edward Island, Anne knows she must prove her worth in order to stay. A skinny girl with fiery red hair and a temper to match, she’s not what Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert expected. Will Anne’s lively imagination, intelligence and persistence win over the stoic Cuthberts and the townsfolk? Be swept away by Anne’s journey of friendship, family, love and finding her forever home.
Joseph Robinette is the author or co-author of 55 published plays and musicals. His plays have been produced by Lincoln Center, Pittsburgh Playhouse, Goodman Theatre, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, Seattle's Fifth Avenue Theatre and the BBC, among others. Produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Illinois.

Click HERE for ticket information. Shows are Nov. 16, 17 & 18 (7pm) and Nov. 19 (2:30pm).
