Beware, all ye who enter here...

Welcome, devoted denizens of the education underworld, to our annual corpulent compendium of ectoplasm-infused invective: the education newsletter Halloween special.

This digital grimoire is inscribed with the kind of ancient secrets which can only be uncovered by either burying a lock of hair on a full moon and running three times widdershins round an old oak tree, or visiting our vile repository of the most wickede and evile resources known to humankind. Will you press on, undaunted, to make a diabolical digital making project? Or will you run screaming into the night?

Don't say we didn't warn you...

The Raspberry Pi Foundation, wishing you a gruesomely happy Halloween!

Screams from the crypt

Why not celebrate this ghostly holiday by making some spook-tastic coding projects at your Dojo? Visit our Halloween-themed blog post by Nuala McWail, and encounter three learning resources to help encourage your young learners to come up with their own ghastly creations!
There's nothing worse than having your spookily LED-enhanced Halloween costume fizzle out in the rain. Why not keep up to date with the latest local conditions by using Richard 'The Impaler' Hayler's newest project resource, Uploading climate data to Weather Underground?
Help! We desperately need your skills: there's been a virus outbreak, and the world is being overrun by zombies! No, wait— it's a monstrous kaiju, smashing the entire city! Argh, we were wrong: it's a deadly meteor, heading straight for our planet!

Whatever it is, find out from Mark 'Ouija' Calleja how YOU can save humankind here.

To celebrate Raspberry Pi's sixth birthday, we’re coordinating Raspberry Jams all over the world to take place over the Big Birthday Weekend, 3–4 March 2018. If you want to run a special Jam as part of this, read this blog post by Ben 'Scuttle' Nuttall for more information.
A reminder from Astro Pi Mission Commander Dave 'Grave' Honess that you still have time to submit your code to be run in space for a guaranteed 30 seconds with our Mission Zero challenge. The deadline for entries is 26 November. But remember: in space, no-one can hear your code scream!

Zombie of the month

Spencer Organ-Transplant

"I teach CS in a room with no traditional PC-style computers, so I use the skills I learned from Picademy on a daily basis to engage and enthuse my learners. Currently, I only teach using the Raspberry Pi. Picademy gave me the confidence to use these skills in my Physics, Chemistry, and CS lessons as I continue to integrate aspects of physical computing into them.

"I have taken the idea of Picademy and now run my own CPD called 'Coffee, cake and coding' for local teachers, with follow-up workshops in their schools. I have 20 Raspberry Pi workstations in my science lab, along with 15 pi-top CEEDs. I set them up and pack them away daily as I flip between science and CS lessons. This is a challenge, but the students' response makes it worth it. My top advice is: start small, get the students involved, and then see where it takes you!"

Spencer is a Computer Science teacher at a secondary school in the UK. Visit his blog or Twitter to start a conversation.
