Countdown to the AFRINIC-27 meeting in Lagos!
 In a month’s time, the African and global Internet industry will converge at the Renaissance Hotel, Ikeja from 27th November to 1st December 2017, to discuss issues on the Internet for sustainable development in African and Indian Ocean Region, tagged AFRINIC-27. Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) is the local host.
Hosting AFRINIC-27 provides a perfect opportunity for Nigeria to showcase how the Internet can improve lives and sustain economic development. The meeting will discuss policies, trends, resources and challenges in growing the Internet. We must all collectively participate in the discussions. Invitations have been sent out to many high profile dignitaries, who are expected at the event.

CYBER SECURITY
 Cyber security (Technologies, processes and practices designed to protect the networks of an organization) tries to guarantee the accomplishment and maintenance of security properties of an organization and user’s assets against relevant security risks in the cyber space.
Organization and user’s assets includes connected computing devices, personnel, infrastructure, applications, services, communications systems, and the whole of transmitted and/or stored information in the cyber space.
The three sides of the famous CIA security triangle are: – Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability (CIA). In other words, it is important that the practices and processes are in place to ensure data is not being used or accessed by unauthorized individuals or parties. Safeguarding data requires special training.

NiRA courtesy call to the Guardian Newspapers
The NiRA Team, led by Reverend Sunday Folayan, NiRA President paid a courtesy call on the Management of The Guardian Newspapers, Rutham House, Isolo, Lagos on Thursday 12th October 2017. The delegation were received by the Guardian Team led by Mrs. Adenike Sotade, the Saturday Editor.
During the visit, Reverend Folayan briefed the Guardian on NiRA’s activities and commended The Guardian Newspapers for championing the cause of the .ng brand all these years, especially its adoption of the .ng brand and ongoing publicity via the Guardian platforms.
According to the President “If you recall, The Guardian Newspapers has won the NiRA .ng Media Award twice, back to back and also the NiRA Best Print Media website and supporting media partner award in 2017”.
NiRA seized the opportunity of the visit to seek the support and participation of the Guardian Newspapers in successfully hosting the upcoming AFRINIC-27 meeting.
NIRA hosts the VIce Chairman, Senate Committee on ICT & Cybercrime
On Friday, 13th of October 2017, Senator Foster Ogola, the Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on ICT & CyberCrime and the Chairman, Conference Planning Committee visited NiRA Office Complex together with other members of his team. They were received by the NiRA President, Reverend Sunday Folayan and the Management Staff of NiRA Secretariat.
The Honourable Senator came to inform NiRA about the upcoming 2017 ICT Cybersecurity Week being hosted by the Senate Committee on ICT and CyberCrime at Zeus Paradise Hotel at Abuja from 6th to 9th November 2017.

Annual Information Security Congress 2017
 The Information Technology Systems & Security Professionals (ITSSP) hosted the 2017 Annual Information Security Congress from Wednesday, 18th October to 21st October, 2017. The theme “Protecting the Present, Securing. The Future”. The event took place at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Conference Centre, Alausa Ikeja. ITSSP moves to bridge the gap of Information Security in Nigeria. The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), MainOne and Chams were amongst the sponsors for the congress.
