Introduction to ISforGH Newsletter
Dear Reader,
Welcome to ISforGH, a newsletter for all interested in global health and in closing the gaps between what is known and what is done. The team behind ISforGH believes strongly that addressing the disconnect between service delivery, research, and evidence use is critical to improving the health of communities worldwide.
Our ultimate goal is for timely evidence to inform the development and implementation of every health program and health policy. We will be reaching out to global health implementers, policymakers, and scientists to advance this goal.
ISforGH content will be curated by and include updates about the work of USAID’s Health Evaluation and Applied Research Development (HEARD) Project, which focuses on evaluative and targeted research to accelerate research-to-use. HEARD is also working to facilitate a global community of institutions around implementation science, and this newsletter will be central to that effort.

The Global Evidence Summit—Improving Lives Through the Use of Evidence
The theme of the summit, “Using Evidence. Improving Lives” captured the vibe of the meeting well; although it would be easy to get immersed in the weeds of a methodological approach or a new technology, there was a palpable sense that the purpose of our work is to improve lives. With this in mind, three themes were prominent throughout the week.
New Approaches to Enhance Evidence Use
One of the most pressing challenges the public health community faces is how to provide timely and relevant evidence to decision makers so that they can use it to improve public health policy, programs and implementation.
Spotlight on Implementation Science Each ISforGH Newsletter includes a spotlight interview with a global health implementer at the forefront of implementation science work.
