AFRICA A+
We continue to work with A+ Facilitators to enhance your children’s learning experience.

Your child is so lucky to have the wonderful opportunities at Fish Hoek Pre-Primary to learn through play, experiences, concrete examples, interactive play and collaboration. Learning to question, make decisions and be creative in their thoughts, and actions. Making them the leaders of tomorrow!!!

WORMS! WORMS! WORMS! AND WORM TEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have some deliciously fat worms in our wormery at school as well as worm tea that we would like to sell or swop for some vegetables for our veggie garden or plants, particularly cacti for the bed at the front gate.
We are having trouble with vagrants sleeping in the flower bed and need to plant some ‘spiky’ plants to deter them.
Please come and chat with us in the office if you have an interest in the worms.

FACEBOOK
If there are parents or family members still waiting to be accepted into our closed facebook group, please let me know so that I can accept them. Sometimes I do not recognise the name.

WANTED
WE NEED NEWSPAPER PLEASE!!!!
Thank you to those parents who have brought in paper for us. Please continue to bring it in.
We really are desperate for paper for the children to draw and paint on. It seems that businesses don’t seem to have re-cycled paper for us either. I guess it’s our paperless world!!!!  It’s good in a way but doesn’t make it easier for us.
If you know of any businesses that could assist us please let us know.

Class News

Sea Horse

Dear beloved Seahorse parents... only three weeks into 4th term and suddenly things have become so busy, from practising for nativity plays to organising the Tour de Fish Hoek.
Last week I sent out lines to practise for our play, please make time to help your child memorize it as this helps teacher Monica and I to get all our kids ready for the play.
I would also like to urge if any parents need to schedule a meeting with me before I Leave for Maternity leave, end of October, please feel free to ask me.

IQ THEME:  Farm Animals
EQ THEME: Getting better at their
                      Learning
For the next two weeks our theme changed and will now be Farm Animals.
I have been alternating our quiet play,
One day we have quiet play and the next day we use that time to practise for the play.
On Saturday we will have our Tour De Fish Hoek. Teacher Elraine and I have decided to have a savoury table together for our stall as we will be selling snacks on the day.
We do need parents to donate a R10 towards our stall for the snacks,, to be given by Friday please.
I also have a roster up on our door outside with time slots to help in our stall, please make an effort to help and support our classes please🙏
All bikes should have your child’s name attached to the bike.
Bikes must also be brought to school Friday afternoon please.
The race starts at 9h00 on Saturday 28th October 2017, ice bites and medals will be received when race is completed.
looking Forward to seeing everyone there

EQ: Getting better at learning
General: Shopping/ buying and trading.
Math: Number 0 counting in twos/ addition and subtraction.
Language: Wordworks The Big Wave 3 letter words.
Last week I sent out the words that your child may need to learn for our Nativity Play that will be held at the school at 3pm on Saturday 25 November. I was amazed that quite a few children knew their words by Thursday and we so confident when they said them. Thank you for helping them to learn the words.
On Saturday 28 Nov is our long awaited Tour de Fish Hoek Pre-Primary. Our class is in charge of the doughnut stall. Stacey-Leigh has offered to help me set up the stall. We need parents to help work at the stall. I have put up a roster outside the class. Children need to be at The False Bay College on the corner of Kommetjie Rd and 7th Avenue dressed in their blue class T’shirt by 8-30 am. The race starts at 9am and will be finished by 11 am. Please do not drop your children and leave them there alone as they need to be supervised by you before and after the race. Children will sit with their class during the races.
On Friday please bring your child's bike or scooter to school clearly labelled with their name. If they do not have a scooter they can borrow a scooter from the school.
The group star chart is working very well and I have noticed that the children are much quieter when working at the tables. The children need to work as a team to earn stars for their group and at the end of the week the group with the most stars wins. Last week the circles were our winners. Throughout the year we have discussed working co-operatively in our EQ lessons so the children understand the concept. This week we will talk about getting better at learning and the children will be asked to think of what they could not do at the beginning of the year and what they have learned to do. I will also discuss the reason we learn various things. I read a story called "The Man who couldn't read." The children loved the story as he bought wax wrap instead of spaghetti. We discussed the importance of reading and maths. I will link this to the theme of Shopping and how maths and reading is used in shops. We will recap money.
In Mathematics we will be concentrating on number 0, counting in twos and adding and subtracting. Every morning we count in twos and I give the children word sum problems. They decide if they must add or subtract. We use counter and various objects to help them work out the problem. At present we are doing lots of sums and the children are learning the + add and - subtraction sign.
The class enjoyed the last Wordworks Story, The Big Wave. This week we will do the various rotation activities.  The children are enjoying playing phonics and alphabet games and are taking up the challenge of blending and reading words.
I am collecting empty tuna tins for Christmas decorations please send in any cans you collect.
We will continue to go for goals and the tasks we set the children are all skills required in Grade 1. I urge you to encourage your child to extend the following skills at home: tying a shoe lace, writing their name and surname, know date of birth and address. In our movement lessons we will continue to practice skipping with a rope.
Please remember to put sun-cream on your children and to send them to school with caps or hats.
It is a busy term so please diarise dates and keep them free especially for our concert and graduation.
Dates for October
Sat 28 October:  Tour de Fish Hoek. This is our annual bicycle/scooter race. A fun event that the children enjoy so please try and attend.
Sat 25 November:   Nativity Concert and Graduation
Have a good week
