RADMA has a working party reviewing tools that have been recommended by practitioners and we plan to produce an accessible guide to those that have proved their worth. Paul Barrett is in this party and he gives his selection of tools below, while Dr Ieva Martinaityte encourages speaking up and Allison Haitz asks how you manage the unknowable.

Identifying and communicating issues can drive organisational improvement, but all too often the whistle-blowers are punished. Dr Ieva Martinaityte explores how speaking out can be used for positive influence.

Paul Barrett is part of a RADMA working group that aims to provide a selection of recommended tools so that R&D and innovation managers can improve the productivity of their departments and manage the processes better. He says that portfolio management is an area that can most benefit from an objective approach.

R&D management: art or science? The challenge with R&D management is that you need to be thinking ahead of the markets and this is where the art comes in: anticipating where things will move.
