Changes Abound at Love Botswana! (Part 2)
NEW CEO for LBOM!

Pastor Jana Lackey assumed the operational helm of LBOM
earlier this summer when Chief Programs Officer Gary Pelotshweu resigned his post to begin a 2-year sabbatical in the US.  As co-founder, Jana has served on both the Lackey Ministries and the Love Botswana Outreach Mission Trust Boards and has been instrumental in developing the many programs that populate the LBOM "family of ministries."  Accepting the role of CEO for LBOM will require that Pastor Jana step aside from her position on the Love Botswana Board, however she will remain on the board of directors for Lackey Ministries.  Pastor Jana's new assignment, Chief Executive Officer, is framed by a heart and vision that has been the foundation of the ministry.    Details of just what that means for the Lackeys and for ministry are outlined in her comments below.

But before sharing Jana's thoughts, Pastor Gary had a few more words.

But before sharing Jana's thoughts, Pastor Gary had a few more words.

Q: What would you like to say to Pastor Jana as she assumes this new position? A message of encouragement?

PG: It’s good timing.
She is the heart of the ministry – she is a merciful person. People will be feeling that. The compassion. She’s able to build relationships. She feels for people. It’s going to be a great season for the ministry under her leadership. I’m going to encourage her; prayer is key in this position.

And now, Pastor Jana:
Q: What would you like to say about Pastor Gary in terms of the position he has filled?  A message of encouragement?

PJ: Pastor Gary brought us to a completely new level at Love Botswana over the time he was at the helm ... In many ways I like to say he’s been my coach. There are things I’ve learned from him: his honesty and ability to be very frank with me. He has taught me more about the Botswana culture than anyone. From the time Gary came as Youth Pastor, he has been instrumental in moving Love Botswana toward localization. The process of sharing a vision and empowering locals to carry out that vision within their cultural frame of reference is paramount to our missionary calling. LBOM is almost 99% localized. Gary and his staff have made that happen.

Q:  How do you see your role as CEO?

PJ: I perceive my new role as CEO as that of serving as a cheerleader. Over the years, LBOM has become organized as 5 stand-alone divisions. Each functions separately as its own operational and legal entity under the umbrella of Love Botswana Outreach Mission Trust. Within those 5 divisions, about 30 programs currently serve as the vehicles to make “IT” happen. Our goal, the “IT” is: touching people, changing lives, shaping futures. We see this happening in everything that we do and in every program we offer. I will simply be orchestrating and supporting what is already in place.

LOVING PEOPLE

CHANGING LIVES

SHAPING FUTURES

Q:  How do missionaries and volunteers fit into those divisions and programs?

PJ: LBOM is an NGO or non-profit organization, and in that, we need volunteers and helpers. However, that looks very different than it did ten years ago. Missionaries or volunteers now come to support what’s already happening, bringing technical support and expertise in different areas to serve programs that are currently in place. Love Botswana was built by missionaries who came in the early years and left behind works that have come up from the Kalahari sands right here where we are.  We value, appreciate, and honor everyone who’s ever been a part here. My position will facilitate what’s already on the ground; what’s already happening; what’s already established and I applaud those around me who are carrying out the ministry. My leadership will be to the managers who direct and lead their people, both permanent local staff and missionaries and helpers who come for shorter periods of time.

Q:  Do you see the ministry expanding?
PJ: Our vision has always been national as well as local in its scope. We started out in Maun because our vision was to bring a practical gospel to a less-populated district. Over the 30 years of serving this area, we have seen the impact of our ministry extend to the nation. Many groups from different districts are asking us to help replicate some of our existing programs. As a mission organization, it is my hope that we will be able to empower more and more people within Botswana for ALL of Africa as well as for the world. That expresses my heart’s desire and is my number one priority.

Please pray for the Lackeys and their team as they embrace this transition. As we move forward, would you consider giving toward staffing and ministry initiatives as we continue to "Develop leaders; Transform lives!"
