Horse Effigy Drum Holders

Great Lakes/Potawatomi
c. Turn of the Century

Drum holders were developed to support large traditional drums above the ground as several drummers would beat the rhythm.

This group of drum supports are quite unusual as they depict stallions carved from walnut staves.

They were likely made in the Great Lakes region of the country at the turn of the last century. They are possibly of Potawatomi origin.

Each carving measures approximately
23" long, 3" deep and 1" wide
