South Dakota One Health Seminar to Focus on Rabies
Monday, October 30 is the date for the next "South Dakota One Health" seminar, to be held at the USD Health Sciences Center on the Sanford Hospital campus in Sioux Falls. These semi-annual seminars cover a public health topic of interest to a wide audience, including human health professionals; veterinarians; health and agricultural educators; medical, veterinary, animal and dairy science students; livestock producers, regulatory officials, animal control officers and animal shelter managers.

SDSU's Pre-Veterinary Club partnered with the Brookings Regional Humane Society to feature their adoptable animals during the 2017 Hobo Day parade on October 14 in Brookings. Pre-Vet Club officers for 2017 are: Holly Krueger, Arlington, NE (President); Alaine Buysse, Ghent, MN (Vice-President); Andrea Severtson, Kenneth, MN (Secretary); Ashley Reiner, Hutchinson, MN (Treasurer); Allyssa Parker, Montevideo, MN, and Meredith Rigmaiden, Rapid City (Prexy Council Representatives).

Dr. Dale Miskimins, Professor - presented a case study during the AAVLD Toxicology Section meeting, "Unusual Cause of Death Losses in Cattle Awaiting Slaugher."
Dana Rausch, Research Associate in Molecular Diagnostics - presented a talk on "Sanger and NGS Sequencng"
Dr. Larry Holler, Professor - served as SDSU's AAVLD official delegate and a member of the Bacteriology and Mycology subcommittee
Dr. Eric Nelson, Professor - serves on the AAVLD Virology committee
Rajesh Parmar, Research Associate and Quality Systems Manager - attended the AAVLD Quality Workshop
Dr. Alan Young, Professor - serves on the USAHA One Health, Vector-Borne Disease, and Cervid committees, and attended the Pharmaceutical Section at the USAHA meeting, held in conjunction with the AAVLD meeting.
Dr. Nuria Garcia-Fernandes, Research Associate in Bacteriology, andJon Greseth, Computer Support Analyst participated in meetings during the conference as well.
Dr. Russ Dalypresented sessions on "Unintended Consequences: Could MLV Vaccines be Harming Reproduction?" and "Johne's Disease in Beef Cattle" to the current BeefSD class at their workshop held at the Lazy J Grand Lodge, Ideal, SD on October 13.
Dr. Chris Chase presented a talk on, “Measuring the Immune Response for Probiotics” at the 6th Beneficial Microbes Conference in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on October 8-11.
Dr. Larry Holler spoke on "Sheep and Goats: Current Challenges" at the Interstate Veterinary Conference in South Sioux City, NE on October 4-6
Dr. Dale Miskimins presented “Aleutian Disease in Mink” at the Western Conference of Veterinary Diagnostic Pathologists meeting held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, September 28-October 1.
