Annual Dinner and Prizegiving - Saturday 18th November

Booking is now open
and it is just 4 weeks until the big social event of the autumn.  This is our annual formal/posh frock (dinner jackets, lounge suits, smart evening wear) event to celebrate the end of the summer season, and achievements on the water.  Tickets are just £35 per adult and £25 for a cadet for a sumptuous meal and presentation of prizes, followed by a disco, in the welcoming surroundings of the Hoebridge Golf Club in Old Woking.  Please email Suejones.home@tiscali.co.uk  with your ticket orders and any special dietary requirements, as soon as possible.
A great opportunity to socialise and meet other members.

Trophies
and of course no trophies can be re-distributed at the Dinner unless they are returned, polished, to the tea bar before the end of October, to give our trophies guru Sue time to get them to the engravers.

Fireworks Night - Saturday 4th November

This event was a sell-out last year so if you want tickets, please contact Jill on john.hamment@ntlworld.com as soon as possible.  The evening starts with supper at 5.30, fireworks on Send Green, (donations to Send Scouts) then games in the clubhouse afterwards.  Just £6.00 for adults and £4.00 for children.

Club AGM - Thursday 16th November, at 8.00pm

Don't forget to come to the AGM to have your say about how your club is run and to hear plans for the year ahead.   The bar will be open and there will be light refreshments.   The agenda can be found on the website here:

Volunteering at Papercourt

Your sailing club is wholly dependent on all members helping to run the club.  At the 2016 AGM eighty members were elected or appointed to the various positions and committees.  We try to make volunteering enjoyable, valued, rewarding and appropriate to the time and enthusiasm that each volunteer can bring to a role, and each role is 'bite size' as far as possible.  We also recognise that some members wish to use existing skills for the benefit of the club, whilst others like to do something new, and lastly we try to ensure that roles are for a limited period.

All this means that we need new volunteers to take over from those who have 'done their time' to refresh the smooth running of the club, and ensure that new ideas and views keep the club on its toes.

At the AGM on Thursday 16th November, we shall be looking to elect members for a range of roles, including members of the Social Team, House Team, Sailing Committee and events team to name just a few.

We would like to identify willing volunteers before the AGM so if you feel you could help out, don't be shy, have a chat with any member of the committee, or contact me directly on
frankbrown1@ntlworld.com , or on 07888 773 799 to discuss what role might work for you.

Frank Brown, Commodore
Further Improvements
Members will be pleased to learn that by the time you next visit the club, the floors in the galley area and the men's changing room will have been renewed.

As the Summer Season draws to a close we have the

Club Championships on Saturday 28th October.

This is completely separate from the class championships earlier in the month, and for those that are new to the club it comprises two separate one day series.

The Champion of Champions is for all those who have EVER won a class or club trophy at Papercourt, whilst the Lawes Trophy is for all those who have NEVER won a class or club trophy excluding any novice trophy.

Two different starts over a series of three races with two to count.  Briefing at 10.30am.

Everyone is welcome

Papercourt Sailing Club - Branded Clothing

Papercourt members are rightly proud of our amazing club, and some of our sailors travel far and wide. Now for the first time in a while, we are able to offer clothing branded with the club logo to help promote our sense of pride, and our club, wherever we are - home or away.  The items available range from fleece to baseball cap, polo shirt to hoodie and much more, in a variety of colours.  There are some samples to view at the club, and very shortly you will be able to order through a dedicated website direct from our partner Essex Embroidery.  In the meantime there are further details on our own website here: http://www.papercourt-sc.org.uk/papercourt-clothing/   Watch this space for when the clothing website goes live, but in the meantime you can order by email or phone, and get ahead with your Christmas Shopping.
Winter Draws On!

The old ones are always the best?  This is a reminder that from the end of October until the end of March all sailors are required to wear a wetsuit or dry suit on the water.  The Race Officer has the authority to ask anyone not complying with this club rule (13.11.16(d) to leave the water.

The winter race programme and winter class training programme, can be found here:
http://www.papercourt-sc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/Winter-Sailing-Prog-V7-20-Oct-2017.pdf    with the first races of the Autumn Series starting on 29th October,

but before the winter starts we have the

Autumn Work Party - Sunday 5th November

If you have not been to a work party before, they are much more fun than it sounds.  Everyone gets together to make the club spic and span and ready for the winter after a hard summer's sailing.  There are jobs inside and out, large and small, and best of all there is coffee and biscuits, and a free hot lunch for everyone who works in the morning.
If you have noticed anything around the club that needs attention, please email Alan on house@papercourt-sc.org.uk as soon as possible so that he can add it to the list.
Unfortunately..................Roadbase wheel thefts

We are sad to report that there have been a few instances of theft of roadbase trailer wheels from the club compound.  Please challenge anyone you see acting suspiciously.   Members who store roadbases at the club may like to consider using locking wheelnuts or wheelclamps.
Lost Property

Now the season is coming to an end, please check the lost(found) property boxes in the changing rooms.  Anything left unclaimed will be offered for sale on the rail in the clubhouse in the near future.  Claim it or lose it!

If you have any queries about lost property please contact suewhitehill@hotmail.com
