A Busy Few Months Ahead!
California Assembly Bill 2044
Thank you Asm. Mark Stone!

We are thrilled to announce the recent introduction of AB 2044, which clarifies that child safety must be the #1 priority when judges apply the "best interests test" in CA family law cases. This bill will be heard in the Assembly Judiciary Committee, possibly as early as Tues. March 13th.

Please contact Asm. Stone and thank him for protecting children in family courts with this legislation. Email or call him at 916-319-2029, especially if you live in his Santa Cruz area district. We will let you know when the hearing date is confirmed.
TAKE ACTION
Ask Your Member of Congress to Support H Con Res 72!

We are making great strides in securing bipartisan co-sponsors for House Con Res 72, which urges states to make child safety the top priority in family courts (as Asm. Stone is doing with AB 2044). Now is the time to get engaged and contact your Member of Congress, urging them to please co-sponsor this important child safety resolution. Call us for guidance on how to secure a commitment to co-sponsor.

STAFF TRANSITIONS

Farewell Logan
CJE was sad to see our longtime associate Logan Begneaud leave in the Fall of 2017 to prepare for her next life chapter as a graduate student, but we fully support her in pursuing her permanent career goals. Logan has applied to four different graduate counseling programs, and she expects to enroll in her final choice this Fall. We deeply value Logan’s many marketing talents and will miss her at our myriad events, but she promises to keep in touch as the next chapter of her career unfolds.

Welcome Sarah
We are thrilled to introduce CJE’s new Graduate Fellow, Sarah Kerlow. Sarah is assisting us part-time as she pursues a Master’s in Human Rights Education at the University of San Francisco. Sarah is a protective mother of five beautiful children.

If you know any students who are looking for real-world experience at a social justice nonprofit that is changing the world, please send them our way.
