Legislative Update
Governor Brown Signs AB 422!
We are pleased to announce that Governor Brown has signed AB 422. This signed legislature grants the California State University system with full authority to offer the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree as of January 1, 2018. The CSU applied doctorate degree in nursing was first legislated as a pilot project in 2010. Now, the CSU DNP degree is fully recognized in legislation as a quality educational program that offers the highest level of applied nursing education.
Throughout the life of the CSU DNP pilot program, there have been 198 successful graduates from the first four cohorts in Northern and Southern California. In addition to those that have already completed the program, there are 24 students looking forward to their graduation in Spring of 2018 and 38 students working towards their graduation in Spring of 2019. We are proud of the graduates of our CSU pilot program! They are nursing leaders and engage in quality improvement projects within their practice settings.
A big THANK YOU to any and all of our community partners, alumni, faculty, legislative liaisons, School of Nursing Directors and Deans for writing letters, attending hearings, producing documentation, and generally cheering us on to make this a reality!

Wishing Lori Rodriguez PhD, RN, MS, MA, CNE, FNP,
A Wonderful Retirement
After achieving many accolades and honors throughout her eleven years of service at SJSU, Dr. Lori Rodriguez has retired as the Director of the DNP Program in the Summer of 2017. She served the program admirably from its inception in 2011, through it's current status, and as the program transitions to its permanent status in the CSU system. Lori's exemplary writing and analysis skills helped move the program successfully through various regulatory visits over the past 5 years. Lori is spending her newfound free time traveling and preparing to move to Washington. She will split her time between Washington and Maui. We wish you well and we already miss you, Lori! Best of luck in the future! |
