2019 New Year's Ice Sculptures
Boston's waterfront was the place for ice sculptures on New Year's Eve! Crowds came out during the day before the rain came in at night to wash the artwork away. Along with my friend Terry, we brought our own lights to shine up the glistening pieces in the following photo gallery.
This year had some of the best and worst times for me. The photography highlight was an epic trip to Iceland in March, a great time to go without the tourist hordes and to experience the Northern Lights. I also added to my ongoing projects including the Italian feasts in Boston's North End and documenting local sea level rise during the flooding of last winter's storms.
On the downside, I lost too many family members and friends this year, including my dear mother, Frances. I took a break to reflect and to appreciate that time with our loved ones is so limited in this world.
Looking ahead, I am very optimistic on 2019 as my imminent retirement will give me the opportunity to cherish the wonderful people in my life as well as pursue my passion for photography and travel adventures.
Enjoy the photos and best wishes for a Happy New Year!
So, what's next? This winter, I have a jaunt to the Catskills followed by a visit to the west coast of Florida. A new exciting addition to the calendar is Carnivale in Venice, Italy from late February to early March. There is much more travel to come later in the year. Speaking of which, I recently updated the Travel section of the website, so check that out.
