From the Director's Corner

“The Holidays are Coming” and the White Lake Community Library is here to help.  We have books on cooking, decorating and making gifts for those special people.  Starting mid-November, watch for our selection of Christmas books for sale – and a few other items.  We have the last remaining copies of Logging the White, signed by both authors, which make wonderful gifts.  Check out our Special Treasures too.  You could find that perfect vintage book someone has been wanting for ages.  We will also have one-of-a-kind gift items.

Speaking of decorating, we could use a few people who are good at this to help us get the library all set up for the holidays.  We have the decorations, but just need help putting out and arranging them.  If you can spare an hour or two the week after Thanksgiving, please call Shelley to set up a time for your much-needed assistance.  Help us shine and sparkle!!

We now have individual children’s tablets that can be checked out to use anywhere in the library.  These were purchased with a literacy grant from the Montague Whitehall Rotary Club.  Each tablet is loaded with literacy games for young children.  The Children’s Department received an LSTA grant in July for STEM learning toys and tools.  They were used in our Summer Outreach programs.  The kits are available for in-library use and are for ages preschool through 6th grade.  They cover topics such as coding, circuits, chain reactions, logic and architecture.

We also want to acknowledge Samantha Sawyer from the Subaru Ambassador Program who was able to get some STEM focused books donated from Subaru to our children’s area.  We thank her very much for nominating our library for this donation.

Lastly, we would like to thank the special ladies from the Hokey Pokey who commissioned a rocking chair to be built in memory of Sarah Ward – one of our library volunteers who recently passed away.  The beautiful chair now sits in the Legacy Room for patrons to enjoy.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday and have a safe trip if you are traveling.
