The CBSP Annual Town Hall Meeting was held in October, and the draft 2017 Report Card was presented. Attendees shared feedback with staff, ranging from street light concerns to suggestions to improve the readability of the 2018 Report Card. The updated report card will be presented at an upcoming Strategic Initiatives Standing Committee meeting, and then approved by Council.
Work has begun on the 2018 Budget, and departmental business plans will once again outline resources available to support the implementation of the CBSP.
The full CBSP, including goals, action items, key performance indicators and the annual reporting template are available at www.collingwood.ca/CBSP.
Council Highlights
Highlights from recent Council Meetings:
The Healthy Kids Community Challenge was introduced as a three-year program, to be delivered from April 1, 2015 until March 31, 2018, supported by funding from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC). Given the success of the program in supporting the well-being of our children, and creating a community where it is easier for children to lead healthier lives, the MOHLTC has extended the program until September 30, 2018.
The 2017 Collingwood Elvis Festival, while being one of the best executed, came in at a cost of $124,000. However, the report noted that the festival yielded an estimated $1.3 million in economic impact. The lower than expected ticket revenue and attendance could be attributed to the Canada 150 celebrations and the increased options for summer festivals. Council voted to continue the Collingwood Elvis Festival for a two-year term with a full understanding of the financial risks required to yield local economic impacts.
Collingwood’s Art on the Street program will undergo a few changes, as the Collingwood Downtown Business Improvement Area (BIA) will now manage the banner program, while the Town continues to support the call-to-artists. The Arts & Culture Coordinator will be introducing spoken word programming, as there is currently not a great deal of support for this medium.
At a Special Council Meeting on October 23, 2017, Council agreed to sell its 50% stake in Collus PowerStream, the local hydro distribution company, owned by the Town of Collingwood and Alectra (formerly PowerStream). On November 9, 2017, the Town of Collingwood received confirmation that Alectra Utilities has decided to sell their stake in Collus PowerStream. EPCOR will become the sole owner, purchasing 100% of the utility from the Town. An application will now be made to the Ontario Energy Board to approve the transaction. This process could take anywhere from three months up to one year. A Public Information Session will be held on Thursday, November 23, at 7:00 p.m. at the third floor of the Collingwood Public Library and Municipal Offices, to provide further details of the agreement.
Council Highlights are issued after each regular meeting of Council and can be found in our online newsroom: Collingwood.ca/Newsroom.
