BUA NEWS AND NOTES
November 7, 2017
IN THIS ISSUE:
A Note from Sudarshan Ramanan '21

This note is excerpted from the welcome speech Sudarshan delivered at Sunday's Admission Open House.

Good Afternoon,

My name is Sudarshan Ramanan, and I am a freshman at Boston University Academy. I would like to thank all of you for visiting BUA on a Sunday afternoon. When I think back to this time last year, I recall being really excited to figure out where I would spend the next four years. Today, I am proud and so happy that I made the right decision. During my first visit to BUA, I was excited by the school’s lively atmosphere and friendly students and teachers. And of course, I was also attracted by the school’s academic strengths. For example, I was impressed to learn that I would have the opportunity to take college-level courses as a junior and senior. Apart from the academics, I was also thrilled about the variety of extracurricular activities this school offers, such as Model UN, Robotics, and Student Council.

A few weeks ago, the ninth and tenth grade classes spent three days at Camp Burgess in Cape Cod. While we were there, we went zip lining, did a high ropes course, and paddle boarded. This trip also gave me the opportunity to interact with many students and teachers outside of school. The high ropes course was something I was reluctant to go on at first, but my friends encouraged me to continue to push myself to do it. I am really happy I did!

Here at BUA, I am now taking sailing -- which is another thing I have never tried in the past. The great thing about BUA is that it encourages you to both follow your interests AND to try new things. I am sure that I will have many great stories to share by the time I graduate from BUA.

Updates from the Advancement Office
  • A HUGE thank you to everyone who volunteered at Sunday's Open House.  We're grateful for your willingness to share your BUA stories and experiences with our prospective families.

  • We have launched BUA's 2017-18 Annual Fund! The Annual Fund benefits our students by supporting the work of our faculty, as well as bolstering financial aid, technology, college counseling, arts, athletics, student activities, and more. Generosity from our parent community and parents of graduates has a powerful impact at our school.  We hope you will consider joining fellow parents by making a gift to the Annual Fund in our 25th year that reflects BUA’s importance to your family. It is easy to give online, or you can donate by sending a check made out to “Boston University Academy.” If you have already made your gift to the 2017-18 Annual Fund, thank you!

Exams are followed by a score report review with BUA's Revolution Prep representative Jake Miller.  During the session, Jake will walk students through the score report to help determine strengths, weaknesses and a custom plan - if necessary - to help students best prepare for the official exam of their choice:

    • SAT - Thursday, January 11 from 3:00-7:00 p.m.
