A few days ago, the RAN Secretariat received very good news regarding the appointment of Prof. William Bazeyo, the RAN Chief of Party and Lab Director as the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor In-Charge of Finance and Administration (DVC-F&A), Makerere University in Kampala Uganda.

RAN Team is Sensitized on the Cyber Laws in Uganda

On the afternoon of Wednesday 6th September, the RAN team attended a brief training to be sensitized on the Ugandan Cyber Laws. The training was facilitated by the National Information and Technology Authority- Uganda (NITA-U)- an active partner of the Makerere School of Public Health- ResilientAfrica Network (RAN) and was held in the EA RILab Board room.

It was a pleasure and yet another rich engagement opportunity for the ‘Wekebere’ and Pedal Tap innovators to join in the Green Drinks Event in Kampala, Uganda. The Green Drinks Event http://www.greendrinks.orgas a social event operates in chapters in over 430 cities worldwide and it provides a platform to host development experts from multidisciplinary sectors. Every month, they host different innovators to present on sustainable topics and innovations enabling community engagement for further innovation identification, development and scaling too.

RAN Innovator-Grace Nakibaala at Brightest Young Minds (BYM) event

Brightest Young Minds (BYM) is an international leadership development organization with headquarters in South Africa. Based on the initiative of the organization, the innovative and responsible young people in Africa are annually selected and connected through the BYM Summit. This year’s BYM 2017 was hosted from 24th to 30th September 2017 at Park Inn Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg. The awardees of age 25 to 35 years were selected from across 17 countries including; Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa which were most represented among others.

Big Ideas at Berkeley launched the annual Big Ideas Innovation contest in September 2017 which is open to undergraduate and graduate students with creative solutions that address social challenges. This is the 5th year Makerere University students are participating together with other California based campuses in USA. All through the years, this incredible opportunity is extended to participants within Makerere University through the RAN innovation lab as a focal point in Africa.

RAN deploys ‘a tent thsat breathes’ in Adjumani Hospital and Ayiri Health Center and Settlement in Adjumani District, Uganda

It was a joyful cool mid-afternoon on Friday October 20, 2017 when patients, health workers, district officials, RAN and EpiTent Limited staff, NGO representatives and community members in West Nile Region of Uganda at Adjumani Hospital received two tents ‘which breathe’ from Makerere University School of Public Health ResilientAfrica Network (RAN) www.ranlab.org working closely with EpiTent Limited who are managing further development, local fabrication and deployment these tents.

RAN Shines again at the HESN 2017 Photo Contest

Bob Biryabarema With a lot of passion for agriculture, the leading source of livelihood in Uganda, the Pearl of Africa-Bob’s country, Bob and his colleagues from Makerere University College of Engineering Design Art and Technology (CEDAT) and some others from Gulu University in Northern Uganda pursuing Agricultural mechanics found out that climate is largely affecting food production and greatly impacting on the local farmers’ livelihood in Uganda. This team of multidisciplinary innovators designed the Pedal Water Pump to help farmers offer irrigation and provide clean drinking water thus also reducing energy costs involved in striving to access water and managing the related challenges.
