SO MUCH NEWS

IT'S OKAY IF YOU DON'T READ IT ALL
I reviewed Eileen Myles's new memoir, Afterglow, for Brevity. I'm very pleased about this. You can read the review, in which I grapple with Myles generally and the concept of the dog memoir particularly, here

My Rumpus essay, "The Girl on the Bike," was nominated by the editors for a Pushcart Prize. That's a first for me, so I'm very happy. Details here

Just one Books I Hate interview for you this time: Genevieve Kaplan. She is smart and is maybe a little bit living exactly the life I want, and her approach to the interview was about materials rather than content, which I loved.

I published my first Medium story, "Choose to Be Fascinated," on November 13. And thus forayed into self-help. Kind of. It was republished by Student Voices with my permission, which is why that banner appears over it.

Lastly, Rivet published my hybrid story, "Underside," on November 27. This is the story that started me down the writing path that has since dominated my destiny, so I'm extremely pleased that Rivet gave it a home. A blog post about it is soon to come.
What I'm thinking about:
  • Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play. If there's a keyboard of intellectual engagement inside me, this play hit all of the most beautiful notes on it when I went at the end of October. If it comes to your town, run, don't walk.
  • The Weinstein Effect, kind of generally. Two very good pieces in particular: Laurie Penny on Longreads, and Erin Keane on Salon. Also this in the Paris Review by Claire Dederer, which is similar to a piece of mine that's being published soon, but which I read after I wrote my own piece. I'm not a bit insecure about her incredible writing in a similar vein, nope, not at all.
What I'm reading:
  • A huge pile of ARCs. I love love love ARCs. If you have one, I want it. Probably.
  • Among these: Kingdom of Women, Rosalie Morales Kearns. ORDER IT NOW. Most thrilling book I've read in yonks. Contains violence against women, but in no more extreme doses than the average news report.
  • Poetry chapbooks by my friend Lucas and my acquaintance Sean
Upcoming:
  • The last Reimagining Narrative film event of the semester is on December 1, and we're screening the  Buñuel/Dalí film L'Age d'Or. It's a strange creature and I can't wait for the discussion.
  • Another fiction publication, probably a couple months into 2018.
  • More book reviews. Lots more.
Recently on the Fictator:
  • An exegesis of "Slouching Towards Dicklehem."
  • A summary of what I did on my summer vacation.
