Discipline at Peterson & Winter Gear Swap
Do you want to understand the discipline system at Peterson and when interventions occur? Are you curious about how disciplinary issues are handled and when parents are involved in the process? Come and learn from Mr. Topel, Ms. Nieves, and Ms. Washington about these issues as well as about restorative practices at Peterson tomorrow morning at the PAC Meeting.
Mr. Coleman will also explain the new Second Step curriculum for kindergarten through fifth grade. Learn how to connect with the school if you have a concern about your child.
We will also have an opportunity to share children’s winter gear. If your child has outgrown or no longer needs coats, hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, snowpants, or other winter gear, please bring the clothes to the meeting so they can be shared. And if you are in need of winter clothes for your child, please stop by! Leftover clothes will be given to the lunch/recess team or donated.
A free breakfast will be served, and younger siblings are always welcome. Please join us on Thursday, November 2nd at 8:45 a.m. in the Cafeteria.

Parent Information Sessions
Do you know of families who might be interested in attending Peterson next school year? For those who live outside of the neighborhood boundaries, they must apply through the new GoCPS System; the application period will continue through December 22nd.
A parent information session will be held on Thursday, November 2nd at 6 p.m. In addition, there will be tours for parents on November 29th at 9 a.m., December 6th at 9 a.m., December 15th at 9 a.m. If parents are interested in Peterson and cannot attend a tour on one of these dates, they can contact Ms. Nydia Rodriguez by calling 773-534-5070 to set up a tour at another time.
Please let any friends or relatives, both within our neighborhood boundaries and outside of it, about these opportunities to learn more and possibly join our wonderful school community!

"Hate has no home here" Beyond the Sign: Know Your Neighbors Event
Hate Has No Home Here invites its North Park neighbors to come together for the kickoff event of the new Beyond the Signs initiative: Know your Neighbors.
The group invites all interested North Park residents to come for dinner and casual discussion focused on getting to know each other and the joys and concerns of our diverse community. The event will take place on the evening of Wednesday, November 8th at Peterson Elementary School.
Space is limited, so please read all the details and reserve your free ticket soon. This is an adults-only event, but childcare will be provided for children ages 3 to 12; you must register for childcare prior to the event.

The PAC was created to help support the role of parents and the school as equal partners in children’s education. The primary purpose of the PAC is to empower parents to inspire and assist their children in achieving their educational goals.

End of First Quarter & Report Card Pick-Up at Peterson
This is the last week of the first quarter at Peterson. This Friday, November 3rd, is a non-attendance day for students. Report Card Pick-Up will be held on Wednesday, November 15th. Students will not have a regular attendance day, but parents will have a designated time to meet with their child(ren)'s teachers. Watch for more information coming home soon about scheduling these important conversations to talk about your child(ren)'s progress.
