The Village Comes Together

Hello again! Our EcoVillage project, of reaching a Net Zero Energy challenge in Southeastern San Diego, is shaping up on all sides. Below you can read about the most recent neighborhood effort to do more water and energy conservation makeovers. You'll also find an article explaining the commercial side of the project, and the importance of bringing businesses into the project. There's also a new blog for the EarthLab, which was just spruced up by hundreds of volunteers. Enjoy the photos and articles, friends.

Huge Thank You to the US Navy, La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club, Toro Irrigation, and MTM Students!
On October 13, the US Navy, along with the La Mesa sunrise rotary club and Toro Irrigation, teamed up with Groundwork to establish a 42-tree orchard at the Earthlab. 120 MTM students came out to work alongside the other volunteers, and really contributed a lot of help to the project. This orchard will allow us to further our educational programming in urban agriculture, conservation, and food security. With this project, the Chollas Creek community will enjoy generations of locally grown fruit!

Energizing Our Future: One Block at a Time
The above photo is from our lovely neighbor Stacy, who invited her block to sign on to the Energizing Out Future home makeover campaign. Thanks Stacy! To show off the much-loved work we've been doing, Patrice and Elida, our go-getter Outreach duo, put out the call for a Walking Tour Celebration of the renovated homes. Neighbors were invited to walk the block, and see how the EcoVillage is coming together, and how they can be a part of the effort. Check out the beautiful photos that Mr. Charles Gay, himself a recipient of the home makeover, captured of a great day.
Alex at the EarthLab: October
We're always amazed at the wildlife that makes it's home at the EarthLab, and this week we had over a hundred volunteers doing the important housekeeping work to keep this space thriving for the wildlife that lives here, and the students that learn here. Check in with Alex to learn more.
It Takes a Village
