November 2017

New Council Formed

The City of Kalamunda Council has welcomed some new faces, with the election on Saturday, followed by the swearing in of Councillors on Monday 23 October 2017. Geoffrey Stallard and Dylan O’Connor were both re-elected for another 4-year term, joined by new Councillors David Almond, Lesley Boyd, Cameron Blair and Margaret Thomas. Cr John Giardina was elected as Mayor, with Cr Dylan O’Connor the deputy. Mayor Giardina thanked his Councillors for electing him to lead Council for the next 2 years.

Along with a new Council, from November the City will follow a new Public Agenda Briefing. These will be held on the second Tuesday of every month, with the Ordinary Council meeting on the following fortnight. The forums will involve Elected Members, City staff and external advisors (where appropriate) and will be open to the public. CEO Rhonda Hardy said "We encourgae members of the community to come along to the first Public Agenda Briefing, which will be held on the 14 November 2017.”

Mayors Message

The City of Kalamunda welcomes a new Mayor, Cr John Giardina.

I am deeply humbled and honoured to accept this position. I was first elected to Council in 1990 and whilst I have always been very satisfied serving our community as a Councillor I felt that the time was right to step up and apply my experience and knowledge to move our Council forward and improve our image within the community.

I will work closely with all councillors and the CEO to fulfil our community's expectations and achieve our goals. That will be the agenda I intend to drive. One team pursuing our goals together. It will be an exciting time for this council and the administration.

I would like to sincerely thank our former Mayor Andrew Waddell for his significant contribution during his term in office, our CEO Rhonda Hardy whom I know that together we will make a good leadership team, and finally, I would like to thank my wife Rose for her ongoing support.

Winners: Innovating For Sustainability Award

The City of Kalamunda is proud to announce we are the 2017 winner of the Innovating For Sustainability Award announced at the Western Australian Water Awards for the Hartfield Park Managed Aquifer Recharge Project.

The project was initiated in recognition of the need to develop new strategies to supplement natural groundwater resources and increase water availability. The new aquifer water is intended to be used during the summer months to support the  Hartfield Park Masterplan, sustain water extracted from the licensed irrigation bores and to provide a long term, sustainable water source for the future growth in participant numbers and playing surface area.

A big congratulations to Dan and our amazing Asset Services team for all of their inspiring work!
