A Note from the Director
2018 is here! It seems to me that the year is flying by so quickly. So here we are, embarking on the second half of the year. I hope that each of you had a wonderful Christmas break with family and friends. I’m glad that you are back safely with us!!
Here at preschool, January is a month filled with fun activities about winter. One of our favorite activities all year is coming this month – Donuts with Dads!! We hope that all dads (or someone else special!) will be able to join us for a doughnut on January 25th at drop off. It’s a special time to show them everything that we have been doing at preschool. We hope that you can join us!
January brings with it the weather of winter so be sure that your child comes to school with appropriate winter clothing to play on the playground. The children will go out each day as wet weather permits. We are hoping for some snow too!
At the end of the month you will begin to see sign-ups for a conference with your child’s teacher. This is a time to sit down with your child’s teacher and talk about their progress in the classroom. Please make this a priority to attend as we think that it is important to talk about each child’s growth and development as you plan for next year.
Registration for 2018-2019 is just around the corner too. Look for more information in the coming weeks in your child’s folder. Invite any friends or neighbors who may be looking for a preschool for next year to stop by and take a tour on Tuesdays at 10:30am or by appointment since I am out of the office. Email (preschool@gspc.net) or call (704-362-2319) the Preschool Office to schedule. Personal referrals are the best way to fill up our classrooms and we thank you for sharing with others your experience at Good Shepherd.
We are truly excited to start this New Year with all of you. We hope that 2018 brings joy and excitement to your family. We are looking forward to all that will happen here at Good Shepherd this year and we are glad that you are a part of it.

Good Shepherd Church

I know some people do not like New Year's resolutions. (I can relate.) But I also appreciate the reminder it provides that life includes "new starts." That's one of the things I most appreciate about God, who I sometimes refer to as "the God of second chances." As you and your family look ahead to 2018, I hope you experience some second chances and new starts. ~Robert

One of the most special events of the year is here!!!…Doughnuts with Dad!! We love to have our dads (and grandpas and uncles, etc.) come and share a special breakfast with us. Be sure to mark your calendar now and we look forward to seeing you in January. The date for this year’s event is January 25th during drop-off (from 9:00-930). We hope that you can join us!!

Preschool will be closed on Tuesday, January 2 for a Teacher Workday and Monday, January 15th in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Please plan accordingly.

We never know what winter in Charlotte is going to be like. I wanted to update you on weather closing procedures here at preschool. In case of inclement weather, please watch your television or listen to the radio. If Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are closed, then the preschool will most likely be closed. If for some reason the CMS closing is due to heavy snow/ice in the north part of the county, we can most likely open school. There are church staff in charge of making that decision and you will be notified through Remind (text message). If we are open, please use your best judgement in joining us for the day. Every neighborhood is different. If CMS is delayed (which is rare), then the preschool will open at the usual time. A notice will be sent through Remind. Please note that we do not make up any snow days unless we are closed more than a full week of preschool.

Registration for 2018-2019 is just around the corner! We have started tours for prospective families on Tuesday mornings at 10:30am or by appointment. If you know someone who is looking for a preschool, please send them our way. Your enrollment packet will come to you through your child’s teacher later this month. If you have questions about classes or would like to visit any classrooms, please let me know.

Amazing Athletes is on hiatus for the months of January and February. You will be invited to register for the spring semester to begin in March. Forms will be coming home with all 3 and 4-year-olds in February. If you have questions, see your child's teacher.

Book Fair Results!!!
Thanks again to all of you who supported our annual Book Fair. We earned dollars for the preschool and MANY MANY books for our classrooms. Thank you!!

Communication with our parents is very important to us here at Preschool. At this point in the year, we are hoping to meet with each of you to share a little bit about what we see in your child. It's a joy to share their accomplishments with you. Please save the date...Friday, February 2nd! There will be sign-ups for you to meet with your child's teacher during preschool hours this day. There will NOT be child care during conferences. Please make arrangements for child care before arrival. For those of you who attend school on Friday, it will still be open! We look forward to meeting with you soon!

Take a moment to consider all of the food that is consumed in the month of January at football games and parties throughout the playoffs. Now think about the hundreds of people that will go without a hot meal every day this month. There is a way that you can help!!
Each year, our preschool participates in the Souperbowl of Caring which is a food drive for a local food pantry. This year we will be donating our food to a nearby pantry that serves the people of our neighborhood and close-by community. Will you help us restock basic staple items that can be stored easily? Look for more information about this later in the month as the collection nears - the week of January 29-February 2.

Mattie Grace was born December 13 to the Lancaster Family. Her big sister is Millie in the Twos.
We hope that all of you are doing well and we look forward to seeing you in our classrooms in a few years.
